Re: it won't read the disk
If your ps3 doesnt play ANY games or dvds, that may mean that the eye
on the ps3(the thing that reads the disks and dvds) is malfunctioning,
not moving efficiently enough to procces the disk, not recognizing the
encrypted code on the disks, or the optical eye could even be
scratched. the disk feed could also not be feeding the disk in far
enough for the eye to read it. i would definitly suggest calling
customer service and/or bringing the ps3 to an A+ certified technition
to "diagnose" your problem.

Hello The noise is actually a product of dust from a blue ray disc.Over time these discs heat up and leave a residue on the blue ray lens. Try using a lens cleaner to remove dirt and clean lens. Also i read an article that using a wireless controler can also cause freezing of the blue ray.
It sounds like there's an error with the laser that reads blu ray media as PS3 games and blu ray movies are both stored on blu ray disks which is read by a different type of laser then a dvd is read by. There's nothing you could do to fix that on your own, the only fix I've heard of is sending it in to Sony.
PS3 can't read game disc but dvd or blue ray disc, the blu-ray drive may be suffing problems. But trouble shooting is not easy : Most gamers think cleaning the lens with some fluid can clear the fault but actually can't fix. You need some killer methods to fix and test it. Do you know it's just waste your time and money if you send to somewhere repair - because the same problems will be back after then. The best way is to learn the repair techniques of yourself. There is a PS3 DIY Repair Guide: The author use text and video to show you how to use your hands to open your console and do some maintenance and fixes, at last you are amazing that why you can do that yourself. The best part is you can help your friends too!
This is a very common problem with the PS3 and is caused by a problem with the laser on the Bluray drive which is malfunctioning and can no longer read the game disk properly.
The PS3 uses a dual laser system. This consists of either a dual refractor type lens or two entirely seperate lenses depending on which pickup is fitted to your particular system. One laser is for reading ordinary DVD disks and PS2 disks and the other for Bluray and PS3 games.
The symptoms you describe are quite typical of a failure of one of these lasers i.e the Bluray laser has failed.
For more information on how to resolve the problem please have a look at this FixYa Tip on the subject.
Here's what you do send it to Sony and wait a year to get it back that's if your still under warranty which is about a year or..........go to staples and ask for a DVD or blue ray disk cleaner to put into your ps3 system a blue ray cleaner would be better but a DVD cleaner could work. this is mostly caused by putting dirty disks into your ps3 system the blu ray laser is probley just dirty nothing to worry about ps. have you tried out burnout paradise and midnight club LA they are awesome you should check them out and for some good reviews of ps3 and xbox 360 games you can go to rawgamplay.com
its most likely your blue ray reader. try putting a dvd or cd in. does it read them fine?. then try a blue ray dvd. if it dosent work search for "playstation mod" and buy a new disk drive. you will have to install it yourself though.
the blue ray drive can read many disk types and has to be programed to read them this requires 12 disk's to do...as dose the console so this problem could be the OB "lazer" has worn out or the console needs to be reprogamed
