A friend of mine has a ACER Travelmate 4000. In its specs I can see that the memory slots say 333mhz up to 2gb!
Can I install a so-dimm 533mhz or it´s not safe?

The specs call for DDR2 533MHz SODIMMs. The max supported RAM is only 2GB, and to be safe no larger than 1GB per slot (because of the performance hit not operating in dual channel mode where applicable and occasionally PCs and laptops not liking having only one slot populated). ^_^
The official upgrade slot is located on the bottom of the laptop and is
easy to find. Just unscrew the small cover and there it is.
The other slot requires you to unscrew the two screen bracket screws.
Once you have done this, between ESC and F1, F4 and F5 and F12 and
PrtSc there are small plastic rings. Put a biro nib into these and pull
down. They will pop down. You can now remove the plastic cover.
Unscrew the two screws marked "L9" on the bottom of the laptop which
are located at the top of the memory cover. Now you can remove the
keyboard. Underneath the keyboard is the second RAM slot. The SiS 650
chipset supports a max of 1GB per memory slot and since this laptop has
two slots that means 2GB of RAM. I've used Kingston DDR400 PC 3200
You can also upgrade the CPU - the fastest CPU available is the
Pentium-M 2.6GHz. Nothing faster will work - trust me on this. It must
be a Pentium 4 Northwood architecture CPU with a 400MHz FSB. Standard
P4 Northwood CPUs with the metal shim won't fit - unless you know a way
of removing the shim without destroying the CPU. Best to stick with a
Pentium mobile (Pentium 4 M) chip. Look on Ebay for these.
Of course the hard disk can also be upgraded - a 200GB 7200RPM 2.5" drive works a treat. Non SATA of course.
You can add wireless and USB 2.0 using PCMCIA carbus cards. I use a
StarTech 54mbps wireless card with the RAlink chipset and a NEC USB 2.0
card with 4 USB ports. Both cards fit in at the same time.
Read your manual, as there website does not offer it just driver downloads. Also, just because it is the same kind does not mean it will work. That is why most MFG of motherboards have a quality vendor list for memory. There are thousands of people who can't get some mfg's memory to work with there systems when the specs are the same. But I would go with what Ultim said and there might be a slot limit.
Your particular model of laptop will allow up to 2GB of memory. Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.
As for the hard drive, I believe the standard 2.5" drive is compatible in any size you'd prefer.
Hi reisrui, yes it is odd. (It's not the first time I have seen this.)
According to you're manual on page 6, under Specifications. The manual say's you can run up to a Max speed of PC3200 400MHz, 1GB in slot one. In slot 2 you can run a Max of 1GB of PC2700 333MHz in slot 2. Every motherboard I have come across that can run two different speeds of memory. The system will reduce the Max speed to the lower MHz memory speed. If you currently are using 512MB PC3200 400MHz in slot 1 & add 1GB of PC3200 400MHz into slot 2 for a total of 1.5GB of memory. The motherboard will ruduce the total memory over all speed to PC2700 333MHz. Motherboards alway run at the lower memory speed if two different speeds are presant.
I can’t be 100% sure of the 1GB of PC3200 400MHz into slot 2, will run at all! Or if it will be reduce down to 333MHz. I am sure you can run 2GB of PC2700 333MHz, 1GB of memory per slot in you're board for a total of 2GB.
