I recently loaded my player with new songs, I have loaded, listened, deleted and reloaded songs prior. I left the player over night to finish copying songs and charging and in the morning when I unplugged it from the USB cable, it brought up the refresh database screen and freezes only a sliver into the green bar. I have tried the "hold, record, power" combo to enter recovery mode but the software will not reconize it. It keeps giving me errors and I am unable to access anything but the version file, only in recovery mode. I have only had this player 1 week and am really bummed. Please help.

When the Sansa reads "refreshing database," what it is doing is going through all the songs you've loaded on to it, pulling out the "tag" information (Artist, Album, Song Title, Genre) so it can add this information to its own database which it uses to display the songs to you in its menus.
If it gets stuck during this process, usually it's because of a corrupt song file, or a song file in a format it doesn't understand.
Note that the e280 is only able to play MP3 and WMA audio formats. If you've loaded a different type of audio file onto your Sansa, you'll need to remove them.
If the songs you've recently loaded have all been MP3 and/or WMA, you may have loaded a corrupted file onto your Sansa. Try removing the songs you recently added, and see if the problem goes away.
Same problem delete a couple of songs up to 6 mg or 10 whatever then allow to refresh then download your songs back in the music file. the sansa needs some memory to know it has the sdcard in it...
Go to my computer scroll to sansa and open the media folder and open each sub folder and delete manually then delete the folders themselfs then format a couple of times hope this works Start over put new songs on it
that's the problem with all MP3 players, when it's overcharged, it will corrupt the songs maybe because to malfuncion the system. The best solution is to redownload the songs that were lost OR if you have back up of those songs on your PC, much better..
If your SanDisk is locking up try holding the power button down. It will force it to shut down. If you continue to get that error you probalby need to update/reload the firmware. Check out the sandisk.com website. Go to the music and video link and then select forums under support. If memory serves me correctly I had to download the file to my PC and then copy it to my Sandisk to get it to load. I lost all my songs but it fixed the problem.
