Status light on upper right illuminated - how to turn it off?

Hi,

Somehow, the status light at the extreme upper right of the keyboard somehow became illuminated. I think it produced a symptom in Microsoft Excel 2003 running on WinXP/SP3: pressing the down-arrow key distinct from the keypad causes the worksheet to scroll. Normally, it would cause focus to shift to the next lower cell.

Any idea on how I caused this status light to become active and how I can deactivate it?

Thanks in advance,
Richard

    Benimur, you're right on!!

Pressing the middle key did turn of the right hand indicator. And once
the indicator was off, scrolling with the down-arrow in Excel worked
    "normally" as before.

I expected pressing the middle key again would turn the indicator on
again. But no, instead my system went into standby.

I had sometime ago arranged to have the left key hibernate my system,
which I love. Actually, I don't remember if I took some action to
get that performance, or I stumbled across it. Hmmm?

The caps-lock key on my keyboard illuminates and extinguishes the middle light.

The right-most key seems to do nothing AFAIK on my system.

The bottom line is: thanks for your great response. I'm going to try to
do the same for the person who asked about creating permutations with C++

    Best wishes,

    Richard

Hi,

Initially, have you checked/pressed on the "Scroll Lock" key (between Print Screen & Pause). To my knowledge, on most keyboards, the three common indicator lights are: Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock.

Hope that this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

How can I get my keyboard light to come on?

The key just to the right of the space bar is the backlight key. Pressing the backlight key scrolls through the backlight levels of OFF - LOW - MEDIUM - HIGH.

Hold down the backlight key and press the right or left arrow keys to scroll through the colors.(WHITE, RED, AMBER, GREEN, AQUA, BLUE, VIOLET).

However, when the battery is at 20% or less the backlight feature is disabled to conserve the remaining battery charge.

The Num Lock light is probably lit as well (this is the right most of the status lights below the screen). The integrated number keypad is active - to turn it off: press Fn-F11 .

I hope this helps.

I installed a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 using a USB connection. Is there a way to check the battery status. The program I installed that came with the Mouse does not have a tab for checking Battery...

Microsoft wireless mice typically put an icon in the system notification tray (right side of the taskbar, next to the clock) showing the mouse's current status. If you hover over this icon, the battery status should be displayed (it may just say either "OK" or "battery low").

Gateway laptop nv 79 mouse touch pad just stopped working its like its frozen an wont move its only 3 days old helppppppppp

I had this exact same problem and believe me, I flipped out too. I took mine into Best Buy though because it was only 5 days old and the guy from the Geek Squad showed me that there are the touch buttons above the keyboard and the one with the square box with the finger pointing to it actually locks the touchpad just so if you are using another mouse, it will not interfere. So try hitting that button and see if that works.

Best of luck to you.

Somehow I have locked the keys.

Turn the key? :-) No, seriously not sure what you mean by locking the keys. Did you restart your computer? Have you tried the keyboard on another computer. Check the status of the Num-Lock, Scroll-Lock, Caps-Lock, or F-Lock. Hope this helps.

Keyboard stuck in upper case

Is the caps lock light illuminated? If so, you might have to hold shift and hit caps lock to turn off the caps lock. This is an option for old typists who came from manual typewriters that you might have turned on by mistake.
