the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

Why does my GM5420 Tower start up, but doesn't Read/Register screen?

I am not familiar with Gateway machines but this should work for most computers. You will have do some reading up. Yes it's probably a VGA (15 pin D-sub) the connector is often blue but can be any colour)

If your mouse/k-b etc are wireless they may need fresh batteries.

It may be the graphics facilities on your computer are u/s. It's quite awkward to solve this problem because you can't see what you are doing. You might try drivers for the monitor you are using (do not pay for these and be careful to void websites which are sources of adware or other malware) though this is unlikely as basic graphics are supplied in the BIOS

Try "gateway" support, or the "gateway" or other computer forums.

Read this http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?70528-Upgrading-Video-Card-on-Gateway-GM5420

If there is a peripheral graphics card and your machine has on board graphics / video enter the BIOS (read up) and choose on - board video.

Try a graphics card (or on-board, or a different one known to work - see one of the many articles on how to set up a graphics card) Borrow one.

Essentially my course of action is try an alternative graphics facility to the one you have at the time of your post.

(Ihave just looked at the specification for this model at http://www.cnet.com/products/gateway-gm5420-core-2-duo-e6300-1-86-ghz-2-gb-320-gb/specs/
and it has on board Intel graphics default. Assuming the hasn't been an graphics 'upgrade' on your PC

You might find this webpage helpful (it has a troubleshooting section in the service manual)

Enter password unlock system

Getting locked out of your Gateway computer can be frustrating, especially when you have school or work deadlines.
You can get locked out of your Gateway computer in cases where a password-protected screensaver became corrupt, or if the you have set the default screensaver to use a screensaver that does not exist.
Gateway computers come with Microsoft Windows XP and 2000, including the professional versions of both.
Knowing how to unlock your a Gateway computer can save you time and irritation.

Press the "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Delete" keys on your keyboard simultaneously to unlock your Gateway computer.
Type the last logged-on user's login information and click "OK" if you see a locked computer message along with "Only domain/username or an administrator can unlock this computer."

Press the "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Delete" keys once again when you see the Unlock Computer window disappear.
Log on as usual.

Method 2

Shut down the locked Gateway computer by using the Microsoft Windows Resource Kit Shutdown tool. This tool shuts down and restarts a Windows 2000- or NT 4.0-based Gateway computer. Note the dialog box that comes up called System Shutdown.

Wait for the shutdown timer to run out and see the Welcome to Windows box displayed on the screen.

Press "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Delete," which unlocks the computer.
Log onto your Gateway computer normally.

Method 3: Backup, Modify and Restore the Registry

Click "Start" and "Run," then type in the command below in the field box exactly as printed:
%SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Click "Create a Restore Point," then click "Next" on the Welcome to System Restore page that appears.

Type any name for the restore point, then click "Create" on the Create a Restore Point page. Click "Close" after creating the restore point.
Perform this procedure before you make changes to the registry, just in case you make an error; otherwise, incorrect registry changes could create serious problems with your computer.

Click "Yes" if you receive a prompt to turn on System Restore at this point.
Clear the "Turn Off System Restore" check box by clicking on it, then click "OK," and repeat.

Click "Start," then type "regedt32.exe" (without the quotes) in search field box to modify the registry and unlock the computer. Press the "Enter" key on your keyboard.

Locate the scrnsave.exe value under the registry key below:
HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Desktop

Click "String" on the Edit menu, type "logon.scr" (without the quotes), then click "OK."

Look for the ScreenSaverIsSecure value, then click "String" on the Edit menu, type "0," then click "OK."

Quit the Registry Editor

Click "Start" and "Run," then type the command below exactly as printed to restore the registry, then click "OK":
%SystemRoot%\System32\Restore\Rstrui.exe

Click "Restore My Computer to an Earlier Time" on the Welcome to System Restore page, then click "Next."
Note your computer may already be selected to restore to an earlier time--in this case, just click "Next."

Click the system checkpoint on the Select a Restore Point page.
Click "Guided Help (Registry Backup)," then click "Next" on the "On This List Select the Restore Point" area.
Click "OK" if you see a System Restore message listing all the configuration changes it will make.

Click "Next" when you come to the Confirm Restore Point Selection page.
System Restore will now restore the Windows XP configuration you had at an earlier time, and then it will restart your Gateway computer.

Log onto your computer as usual, and then click "OK" when you see the System Restore Confirmation page.

System was freezing and will not download any programs. Finally did system recovery for Gateway GT5012, then downloaded windows updates (10 of them) but could not download service pk 3 (KB 946648). Also...

- It's a possible that the system is infected of spyware or trojan.
- Try to download "MALWAREBYTES" from another system and install this program to scan any threats then removed it using same tools.
-LINK: http://tinyurl.com/2fs58l
- then also scan system using this third party tools DIALAFIX to recover and open some blocked registry.
- LINK: http://tinyurl.com/yrjxwb

NOTE: run it twice to capture all hidden files

-If no threats found try to download this updates.
http://tinyurl.com/3t9hbx

- This update will install updated User Agent-string that will allow IE7 to be compatible to any type of webpage.
- Reboot system
- Check IE condition.
Please give me feedback in any cases! THANKS

My XP has been registered Appr 3 years ago. Recently keep asking me to Register. I have the Produckt No for my XP,Given by SONY (on the back of my PC). Could you please imform me haw to re-register with...

Normally registration is asked only when the system is reinstalled or newly installed.

Ensure that the computer is not asking registration for a different product, for example a newly installed printer, new microsoft Office etc.

If you reinstalled windows, or did some operation on the system as registry clean etc. , and you think it is a genuine registration request, you can decide to register, or ask not to have the request prompted again.

If you think this can be a virus or a non genuine request from fake software contact Microsoft here: Microsoft Contact

Neeed to register my computer

Register your computer for what?

If it warranty registration, then you need to go to the web site for that computer manufacturer.

If it is Windows you are wanting to register, the Microsoft.com is the place to go (I've never seen a reason to "Register" Windows but some people do it.

If it a program installed on the computer, then go to that program vendor's web site.

If you need additional instructions, please post some DETAILs about your issue, as a 5 word sentence provides no details as to what your problem is and without details, we cannot give you any kind of specific answer.

How i registry my computer

Do you mean register the computer? If you bought it from a garage sale, chances are it's old and you will not benefit from registering it.

I am having probs with my gateway.

First off, have you recently installed anything?

One of those options it is giving you besides Safe Mode is most likely "Last Known Good Configuration" and if you have recently (very recently) installed some software it could be causing some trouble. Last Known Good would revert back to before that software was installed. Whether it was a game, productivity software, etc. Any number of programs can cause this trouble. But before trying anything, let me know if you recently installed anything.

Please let me know so I can further assist you. I am in California, so its late (by my standards!). I will answer again in the morning.

We reinstalled registry booster 2 yesterday on our new computer, & it's telling us to register now to complete our problems. but were registered up until august, could you please help..

re-enter your registration key. if you don't have one you might be able to request them to re-send yours. 866-221-3546 or 1-952-908-4027.

The registration information was likely removed from the directory and/or the registry when you uninstalled, and without a backup of your license key you're kind of SOL.
