Uninstall Quicktime I've tried following the steps here, but I can't seem to uninstall my version of Quicktime. I have a quicktime folder in my program files, but it doesn't appear in my "add/delete programs" screen accessed through the control panel. I also can't simply delete the entire quicktime file as one of the files gives me the "access denied" error and won't let me delete it.

So how do I get rid of this Quicktime program so I can try reinstalling itunes?

OR TRY THIS
You can download the stand alone Quicktime Player installer at:

Hi there!
There can be several reasons why you are getting this error message. First, make sure that your user account is an administrator account. If you are sure that your account is an admin, follow this steps:
1. Choose Run from the Start menu. type %Temp% and click OK. delete all files inside the temp directory 3. Click again on run from start menu. Type cmd and hit Enter. 3. Drag iTunesSetup.exe from the Desktop into the C:\\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe window. 4. Add a space and then this text: /extract %TEMP% 5. Press return/enter. This will extract three Windows installer packages into your TEMP directory. 6. Navigate back to your TEMP directory. 7. Launch the AppleSoftwareUpdate Windows Installer Package. Complete the installation. 8. Launch the QuickTime Windows Installer Package. Complete the installation. 9. Launch the iTunes Windows Installer Package. Complete the installation.
Please reply if this will not fix the problem. Cheers!

No sound at all..

I found several things to check about this issue.

First of all, make sure Windows Audio and Windows Management Instrumentation Services are running. Steps:
  1. Go to start -> run. If your keyboard has a ‘windows key’, which looks like the windows icon and is often located next to ctrl/alt, you can get away with pressing (and holding) this key, and tapping the ‘r’ key. I use this shortcut almost every day. On that note, windows-key+e I use even more- try it.
  2. type ’services.msc’, without the single quotes. This opens a list of the various services running on your computer.
  3. Make sure iTunes is closed.
  4. Locate “Windows Audio,” and see if it’s running. If it is, the status will show ‘Started’.
  5. No? Well guess what, iTunes needs this to be running in order to communicate with your audio device. Start it. There’s a link to start it along the leftmost column. Once it’s started, find a blank area within the services window, right click and hit refresh. Or just tap F5. Has the service died? If not, skip to step 7.
  6. The service died, didn’t it? Look for a ‘Windows Management Instrumentation’ service. This needs to be running for Windows Audio to be running, even though it’s not listed in the dependancies. Fire it up, then fire up Windows Audio.
  7. Fire up iTunes, and enjoy.
Secondly, you can open Control Panel and uninstall and then reinstall QuickTime. You can download QuickTime at this URL: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

Third, you can try to reinstall iTune and allow any settings about playback and audio configuration with iTune during that.

Hope those helps.

Error 7 keeps coming up when oppening itunes

A number of users have experienced problems updating to the newlyreleased iTunes 8.1.1. Generally, when this issue occurs, installationappears to proceed normally but then delivers the error message “Theinstaller encounted errors before iTunes could be configured. Yoursystem has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later timeplease return to the installer again. Click Finish to exit installer.”Fix
This problem can often be fixed by reinstalling the latest version of QuickTime via the following steps:
  1. Download the latest edition of QuickTime for Windows (make sure to pick the option without iTunes)
  2. Choose to save the file to your disk, then double-click the .exe file and install QuickTime
  3. After QuickTime is successfully installed, download iTunes again, choosing to save the file. Double-click the iTunes installer .exe and proceed with installation.
Other potential fixes for this issue include:
Run a disk check Disk errors, particularly in Windows XP, can prevent proper iTunes installation. See this Microsoft Knowledge Base article for instructions on performing a disk check/repair.
Use Windows Installer Cleanup Use the Windows Installer Cleanup toolto remove any references to Apple-related installation files(QuickTime, iTunes, etc.), then re-try using the aforementionedtwo-step method to reinstall QuickTime and iTunes

My itunes does not start whwn i clicked on icon.

Here's some info that may help - picked up from other boards where similar problems reported.
First check to see if Quicktime works normally, iTunes will not work without it.
If Quicktime is OK, then use these troubleshooting articles: XP version http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421 Vista version http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717
Have you installed any of the following: ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar, (possibly starcodec pack, 3ivx)
If so uninstall them, they are know to cause problems with Quickitme. Then download the version of Quickime without iTunes: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html Now Remove Quicktime using the method for Quicktime in this article (just Quicktime): XP http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 Vista http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name. Restart you computer Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts. If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.
If Quicktime is OK, do you get any error message when you try to start iTunes? If not, open your task manager after trying to start iTunes. Do you see iTunes.exe running on the processes tab. If there is no error and you see iTunes.exe running then iTunes is hanging and we need to look at a slightly different route.

Sometimes it is just a problem with the itunes database file when it won't open after an upgrade. Press and hold the shift key while trying to start itunes. Does it give you an option to choose or create a new library? http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/8.0/en/15502.html

Bonjour is a common cause of iTunes hanging at start up. i.e. silent launch failure with iTunes.exe running on the processes tab. You can uninstall bonjour if you don't need it. However it is required for sharing libraries and other things
You could also try uninstalling it, then downloading bonjour from Apple and installing it directly. http://support.apple.com/downloads/Bonjour_for_Windows

Itunes

Hey 0836,

If the error message you are seeing reads as "QuickTime failed to initialize. Error # - 2096" you may wish to turn off Compatibility Mode for QuickTime, as doing so may resolve this problem.

You should be able to disable Compatibility Mode by doing the following:

1) Right-click on the QuickTime Player program and choose the "Properties" option from the menu that appears. Normally the application is kept in the C:\Program Files\QuickTime directory, but may differ if you chose to have the program installed onto another hard drive or in another directory.

2) Once in the "Properties" menu, click on the "Compatibility" tab.

3) Uncheck the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode" if it is currently selected.

4) Click on the "Apply" button.

If QuickTime was not initially in Compatibility Mode, and you still receive an error message prompting you that iTunes requires Windows 2000 or later (or prompts you to make sure that compatibility mode is disabled in iTunes.exe), you may wish to try the following instead:

1) Shut down iTunes.

2) Click on the "Start" menu, then on "My Computer." You can generally also double-click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop as an alternative.

3) Once in "My Computer," open the drive where Windows XP is installed. Typically this is the C:\ drive, but please remember that your configuration may slightly differ if you have multiple hard drives.

4) Open the "Program Files" folder.

5) Open the "iTunes" program folder.

6) Next, right-click on the iTunes program - this may be listed as either iTunes or iTunes.exe. Once you have done so, choose "Properties" from the menu that appears.

7) Click on the "Compatibility" tab, and uncheck the option to run in Compatibility Mode if it is selected.

8) Click "OK" to accept the new settings.

One of these two solutions should hopefully resolve the problem, but I would strongly suggest visting Apple's support homepage for more information if you are unsure of how to proceed.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
