Question about Sharp Aquos LC-42D62U 42 in. LCD HDTV

Remote's menu and input buttons, and television Input button not responding

On my sharp aquos lc42d62u just a few minutes ago the input button on the remote became unresponsive. This is the same on the actual television as well. I read the manual and unplugged it for two minutes then it was fine. After a minute of it being on the same problem returned only this time the menu button, and right arrow button joined the input button in becoming unresponsive and making the television turn off. After the TV turns off it will either automatically turn back on or it will have the power and opc light flash a number of times...

Could it be some sort of interference from my satellite which is connected to the hdmi port ( and only input available so it seems )?

  • devilmanex Oct 14, 2008

I left the ac plug disconnected the whole night and the same thing occurred. The input button on both television set and remote worked for two minutes then it would shut off. The menu button worked for about 5 minutes. Prior to plugging the ac cord in I disconnected the HDMI, and changed the batteries. So when the input worked for the 2 minutes it was with the HDMI unplugged and fresh batteries. The new observation I made was the blink code. The tv just shuts off when i push menu and then comes back on after about 2 seconds with no code. When I push either input button it shuts off and there is a series of three blinks that continuse indefinitely. BTW Thanks for your help so far! As of now I'm just unplugging it and replugging it to change the input setting

The problem did get worse. Now the tv won't even turn on. I unplug then replug it and the power light comes on but there is nothing on the screen. Do I need to call repair man?

some of my programs are block and can't seem to get them back. HELP PLEASE

  • jason May 11, 2010

have you tried to unplug the HDMI and check to see if it does it with the tv?

did you count the blinking code?

also are the batterys new in the remote?

because the remote can give bad signal and the IR sensors (tv and remote)could be dirty or worse , you mght have an internal problem which is impossible to fix on the internet unless you have electronic expierence. so I will help you if you need that kind of assistance, but otherwise I will go thru any steps you think you can do. Does any of those checks work or do you need further assistance?

Well the problem sounds like it could be the IR sensor on the tv or somthing in that circut that is failing or the EPROM chip that controls : Vol up/down , Channel up/down , Power on/off ,Menu , Input selection , ect... is failing, thus this will trigger the protection circut to shut the tv down. this kind of a problem only gets worse and can dammage other components if not repaired soon so it will need testing to determine the exact cause

yes! I tried to tell you it would get worse , so please unplug it from the wall and call a electronic repair shop , from it still being plugged in the chip still has acess to the power circuit and can cause other problems

they will have to come and get the tv , they may be able to fix it there , but you should call them soon and if you have a warranty let them know

    sorry about your tv

Look for any jammed buttons on the remote. Try changing the input device to something you are sure, works such as a DVD player. Switch off TV manually, switch off power, remove plug and retry after 48 hours.

If problem persists, please refer it to a qualified service technician.

How are you connecting it to cable tv?

If you are using a coaxial cable to a cable box you have to turn to channel 3.0 with a Sharp remote by pressing 3.0 enter the dot (.) is down by the 0. There is a way around this if you don't have a Sharp remote. You can go into the menu and complete a channel scan. If the model you own is the one pictured then you should have the coax cable connected where it says analog if you are connecting to a cable box this way.

If you are using composite, component, or hdmi cables you press the input button on the television and pick the right input. It is recommended that you do not use the coax cable anyway unless you do not have a cable box. There is an input button on the television and on the remote.

HDTV Sharp- Input select to watch Cable tv

On the sharp remote you will find an input button. You depress the input button and a menu will appear and highlight the input you are presently on. Hit the input button again to select the next input. If you wait to long to depress the input button it will not work and you have to begin again. This unit will only hightlight inputs have a component hooked to that input.
