Question about Lexmark Printers & Copiers

1 Answer

A brand new cartridge I bought.....bar code number 10N227A = 10N217A (black) will not work. It is not the printer, as the nearly empty old black one works and the colour cartridge works. I have been through all the correct procedure when you put in a new cartridge. This happened once before. I have had a technical man here. He says the printer is fine, and the cartridge is properly prepared and installed. Is ther any way I can get a refund? or a replacement cartridge. They are expensive and I do a lot of printing. I have a Lexmark Z25 printer. I bought the double package of cartridges at the Post Office in Northam W.a. 6564. Please help me.

What appears to be fine on the outside may not reflect whats going on inside. Before you spend more money try this, it can't hurt.

Try updating your printer drivers:

Create a new folder on your desktop and name it newhpdrivers(substitute your manufacturer in new name). Un-intall printer and printer software completely. Go to manufacturers website and navigate to their drivers/downloads or support menu. Select your model, choose the relevant software and download to the new folder you created on your desktop. Power down your computer. Reconnect the printer to the computer and turn printer on. Windows will detect new hardware and ask if you have the manufacturers install cd or a location to check for install files. Direct the wizard to your new software, follow the rest of the setup instructions and your done

Wanted to remove the empty ink and put a new one on my printer as it is empty.

When a printer cartridge runs out of ink the printer has a reference number printed on the old cartridge,(usually found when the printer top is lifted). After purchasing a replacement for the empty cartridge, you will find directions about how to install it into your brand of printer. Be careful to match the cartridge numbers and to avoid touching the contact areas on the new cartridge. You will probably need to run a printer cartridge alignment program after installing the new cartridge.

Please comment if this is the best solution for you, Thank you!

We bought a new cartridge for our AL-1631 copier. Up until the time we installed the new cartridge, we never had a problem with this copier. Now the copier indicator light is telling us that it needs a...

Sounds just like an empty cartridge. There is a bar with a long spring on it inside the toner cartridge. As the machine tries to add toner the bar "scrapes" the toner while stirring it in order to ensure all the toner is used. When the chamber is empty or near empty you can hear the spring making more or less a thump thump kind of noise about every 5 seconds or so. If this sounds like the noise you are hearing then it sounds like the toner chamber is empty. Did you buy this cartridge locally? If so you may be able to return it. Was it refilled? Remanufactured? or was it in a OEM Sharp Box with AL100TD or similar on the box? It sounds like either you got a bad/empty cartridge or the only onther possibility is, and I actually had a customer do this once, was accidentally put the old one back it the machine. Pulled the old one out. Unboxed the new one and somehow slid the old one back in. Worst thing was they threw the "new" cartridge away and by the time the light came on again it was long gone!
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Trying to reload color cartridge.

Many brand name printer cartridges have a code that tells the printer they are a new cartridge. Once the cartridge is empty it will never again tell the printer that is it new.

You can refill the cartridge but it will continue to tell the printer that it is empty.

You say you "had my ... cartridges refilled today" so I suggest you go back to the folks who refilled them and ask them for suggestions.

Otherwise, purchase off-brand cartridges that won't tell the printer they're empty and keep refilling them as needed.

Another approach: purchase a new printer that won't give you this problem. I refill my Lexmark cartridges without any problems.

I don't know how to change the ink bought this printer from a guy at work no manual

Lift the scanner cover from the right-hand side of the MFC until
it locks securely into the open position.

If one or more ink cartridges are empty, for example Black, the
LCD shows Ink Empty Black and Cover is Open.

Pull the ink cartridge hook toward you and remove the ink
cartridge for the color shown on the LCD.

Open the new ink cartridge bag for the color shown on the LCD,
and then take out the ink cartridge.

Remove the cartridge covers.

Each color has its own correct position. Keep the ink cartridge
in an upright position when you insert it into slot. Press down on
the ink cartridge until the hook snaps over it.

Lift the scanner cover to release the lock. Gently push the
scanner cover support down and close the scanner cover.

If you replaced an ink cartridge while Near Empty was
displayed on the LCD, the LCD may ask you to verify that it was
a brand new one. Example: Did You Change Blck? 1.Yes
2.No. For each new cartridge you installed, press 1 on the dial
pad to automatically reset the ink dot counter for that color. If the
ink cartridge you installed is not a brand new one, please be
sure to select 2.

If you wait until Ink Empty message is displayed on the LCD,
the MFC will automatically reset the ink dot counter.

If the Install message is on the display after you have
installed ink cartridges, check that the ink cartridges are
installed properly.

Hope that helps you!

MFC 420 CN says blue is empty--cartridge brand new

Alright so here is the issue. When you installed the new cartridge it should have asked you if this was a new cartridge or used and to press 1 or 2 depending on your answer. This tells the printer to reset the levels. Try taking all the cartridges out and turning the printer off/on with them still removed . Then reinstall them one by one answering the used or new question when asked. Also to take into consideration is that print cartridges have a use by date. If it is not used by the recommended date then it may read as a used cartridge or not at all. Verify this date on the packaging if still available. All else fails buy another cartridge.

Print cartridges

  1. When one or more ink cartridges are empty, for example, Black, the LCD shows “Ink Empty Black” and “Open Cover.” Close the printer’s document support and the document tray.
  2. Lift the top cover to the open position until it locks securely into place.
  3. Pull the ink cartridge hook toward the front of the printer and remove the color ink cartridge displayed on the LCD. Place the cartridge in a plastic bag as it may still contain some residual ink and may leak.
  4. Open the new ink cartridge bag for the color shown on the LCD and remove the new ink cartridge. The cartridge cover may come off when you open the bag. This is not uncommon and will not damage the cartridge.
  5. Each color has its own correct position that is clearly labeled and color coded inside the printer. Keep the ink cartridge in an upright position when you insert it into slot. It will only fit in the correct direction. Press down on the ink cartridge until the hook snaps over it.
  6. If you replaced an ink cartridge while “Near Empty” was displayed on the LCD, the LCD may ask you to verify that the replacement cartridge was brand new one. Example: “Did You Change Black? 1.Yes 2.No.” For each new cartridge you installed, press 1 on the dial pad to automatically reset the ink dot counter for that color. If the ink cartridge you installed is not a brand-new one, select 2.

Only printing black and cyan

If you have used third party carts before you can't repair this problem due to the fact that the filter inside the printhead is clogged with particles. There is no chance to clean the filter. Sorry. Do use only dye ink. Pigmented ink is the printhead killer for brother printers!
