Question about Intel Desktop Board D845WN Motherboard

1 Answer

Desktop won't start.

I have a desktop with Intel M/B type D845 WN and an AOpen power supply type ATX-250GT (P4). Problem is no start when front panel on/off switch operated. Fan in power supply not operating.
I have checked mains supply at 240V -OK, operation of on/off switch at M/B connector -OK, temporary short on M/B on/off pins - no start.
Removed all connection from power supply to M/B and etc., temporary link from pins 14 to 15 on 20 pin socket. Very brief mains on - fan starts and all power supply voltages present (measured with DVM and close to nominal value)
Reconnected only the 20 pin connector to M/B - fan starts without operation of on/off switch 5V and 12V measured at drive socket at nominal. If 4 pin (12) socket now also connected to M/B no fan - no voltages.
Have also tried operation with video card removed - no go!
These tests I have got from various web sites but now I am out of ideas and would appreciate help.
Thanks

Try to replace the power supply with another known working power supply from another P4 desktop and then reconnect your wires from the front panel led lights, changing them around until they are in the correct position. I had an almost similar problem and I did the above, it is working now. All the best ! sirjohn

No power coming on intel desktop motherboard d845

Check the power supply to the motherboard i.e the SMPS, if it is working the fan of the SMPS will rotate. If the SMPS is ATX you can check it without connecting it to the motherboard. Unplug all the SMPS power connectors from the motherboard and then short circuit the green and the black wire of the 20pin connector of the smps, if the SMPS is working the fan of the SMPS will rotate. If the SMPS is in good condition and working, than it might be a problem in the internal circuit of the motherboard.

If my sources are correct, (Haven't worked on one in my shop yet), the eMachines T5212 desktop computer uses an Intel D101GGC2 motherboard.

The Intel D101GGC motherboard is Very similar,

Motherboard Manual - left-click on English Product Guide [PDF], in blue.

Give a few seconds for the first page to come up, (Took 6 seconds for me), and for the PDF file to fully download, before looking through it. (Took 24 seconds for me)

1) Did you make sure the 24 -pin ATX main power cable, is plugged in tight?
Lock on the side is snapped in place?

Closer look at a 24-pin ATX main power cable, and it's respective connector,

2) Did you plug in the 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable?

That's power for the Intel Pentium D model 805 processor.

Are the cables (Wires) from the Front Panel of the computer, plugged in correctly into the Front Panel header on the motherboard?
Page 37

Are you sure the DDR2 Sdram ram memory module/s (Stick/s) are plugged in tight?

The best method is to remove it, or them, and reinstall.
This way you are assured.

Most of the time a ram memory module, or more than one, will be bumped loose when installing a Power Supply.

Did you connect the p4 atx 12vx1 plug?
You may also need to connect the aux x1 plug on some models.

Power supply packed i n

Yes, you can safely put in equal or higher. Just make sure it is an ATX and that it is P4 compatible. Most new ones all meet to those specs. Higher is actually better. I would go with a 400w or higher.
