Replaced my hard drive on my hp lap top and i cannot load the restore disk it is hp ze4800 i dont know how to get it load error code pxe e61

This document pertains to HP or Compaq desktop computers with Windows XP. The following error message appears: PXE-E61: Media Test Failure This error is probably occurring because the main bootable hard drive is no longer "connected" to the computer and the next usable bootable device in the boot path is the network card. Use the following steps to resolve the error: NOTE: If the computer was recently moved or bumped, make sure the hard drive cables are firmly attached to the motherboard and the hard drive before using the steps in this document. Step 1: Remove all removable storage devices Remove connected devices, remove power, and restart the computer:

  1. Disconnect any, personal media drives, pocket media drives, USB or 1394 (Firewire) devices that are attached to the computer, especially USB thumb drives.
  2. Remove any CD and DVD discs from their drives.
  3. If the computer has a floppy disk drive, remove any floppy disks from the drive.
  4. Press and hold the Power button for 5 Seconds to turn off the computer.
  5. Disconnect the power cable to the computer.
  6. With the power cable disconnected, press the power button again for five seconds. This may reset the firmware for the hard drive to its defaults .
  7. Plug in the power cable only and turn on the computer.
  8. If the error persists, go to the next step. If the computer starts without the error, one of the removable storage volumes may be preventing the computer from starting or the hard drive was not reponding. Do not leave the removable device in the computer when shutting the computer off. You are done.
Step 2: Make sure a network device is not selected as the first boot device in BIOS The computer may be attempting to boot from the network device.
  1. Turn on the computer by pressing the power button on the PC and press the F1 key repeatedly when the first screen opens.
  2. Use the arrow keys to select the BOOT screen (from the menu at the top of the screen).
  3. Use the arrow keys to select the BOOT Device Priority (or similar).
  4. Press Enter .
  5. Read the instructions on the page to move any reference to a netwrok device to the bottom of the list. You should also move the optical drive (ODD) to the top of the list.
  6. Once the selections have been made, press F10 to Save settings and exit.
Step 3: Test the Hard Drive Test the hard drive using the SMART hard drive test:
  1. Press and hold the Power button for 5 Seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Press the F1 key repeatedly after the computer is turned on. A BIOS setup utility should appear.
  3. After the BIOS Setup Utility is displayed, use the Down Arrow key to select the hard disk drive name and press Enter .
  4. Select SMART Extended Self-Test , press Enter , and wait for the test to complete.
  5. If the test fails, the hard drive should be replaced. If the test passes, go to the next step to update the BIOS.
Step 4: Update the BIOS Download and install the latest BIOS for your computer . If, after updating the BIOS and restarting the computer, the error goes away, you are done. If the error persists or a BIOS update is unavailable, go to the next step to recover the computer. Step 5: Recover the operating system To reinstall the Windows XP operating system, perform a system recovery (or reinstall Windows if the computer was upgraded to XP). You may need to start the computer from a set of recovery discs (or from a Windows Installation disc if Windows was upgraded to XP). Step 6: Repair the computer If the preceding steps do not resolve the error, the hard drive or BIOS may have failed and the computer should be serviced. if this service info does not work contact me.

try making a bootable usb with YUMI

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard disk has failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty.
First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

The PXE error message suggests that your computer is trying to perform a network boot which is why it is saying there is a cable issue.
Check your BIOS settings and disable the option to boot from the Network, plus check that the computer is configured to boot from a valid internal hard disk drive. It is Ok to have a CD or USB device listed ahead of the hard drive in the Boot order as this is normal to allow booting from CD or DVD media or USB devices.
Check that internal hard disk is operational, that the cables to it are firmly connected at both ends (the drive and the motherboard).
If you still have a problem, then provide more information on what symptoms or error messages your are seeing.

When i turn on my HP computer to boot up it says PXE-E61 media test failure check cable and PXE-M0F. I don't know what it means or how i go about fixing it.


go to safe mode using f8 then go to restore to previous date pick date when system was working and push restore

Your laptop is trying to boot from a network source and returns an error because it can't find it. This boot method is usually used to install an operating system on many computers at the same time (so you don't have to run around with your installation CD.)

You have to get into your BIOS and change the boot order to hard drive or CD. You didn't mention which laptop you are using, so you might have to check your manual. Usually permanently pressing or constantly tapping the Del, F2 or F12 key while booting before the Windows logo appears gets you there.
The key you have to press depends on the manufacturer of your laptop. Try to search for the term "boot into bios on sony vaio", or whatever your laptop manufacturer/model is.

The PXE-X61 error means that the laptop cannot detect the hard drive. This can be caused by a faulty disk controller, or a faulty disk drive.
1st. Reseat the hard drive and see if the laptop boots up.

2nd. Go into the BIOS configuration and see if the BIOS detects the hard drive.

3rd. If the BIOS can't detect the hard disk, the remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. If this computer detects this drive as an external disk drive and you can see the contents of the hard drive, then the hard drive is OK and the fault is in the laptop.

4th. If the hard drive cannot be detected then the hard drive is faulty, you need to replace the faulty hard drive in your laptop and install Windows to get an operating laptop again.

PXE-061 error also know as a "PIXEY" erroroccurs when the system cannot find a bootable device and attempts and FAILs to boot from the Network Adapter. Most newer computer network cards have the ability to boot to an operating system thru the network (A function generally only available over large domain networks).

In your case, the most likely senario is that the hard disk drive has failed.

If this is a portable system, remove and reseat the hard drive, then boot to the SYSTEM BIOS and see if the drive is detected.

If this is a desktop/tower system, open chassis, reseat the power and data cables to the hard drive, then see if the drive is seen in the BIOS.

Ensure the hard drive is the 1st in the boot sequence.

If the system still will not boot to the hard drive, time to replace the hard drive.
