If you bought a new computer it probably has Windows 7 installed and the Dell 720 may not be compatible. You can try downloading the Vista drivers from Dell here. They may work with Windows 7. If not, you'll need to replace the printer with a later, Windows 7 compatible one.
sometimes there are compatibility issues with windows vista. Uninstall all other exisitng drivers of printers. Install the downloaded driver again and the software too. If it doesnt work then i think you must get it back with xp.
Currently there aren't any drivers for your computer with Windows 7. Dell only offers drivers for your computer with Windows XP or Windows Vista. I would try using the Creative Labs Webcam Driver they have for Vista. Since many things about Vista & 7 are similar, often the drivers for Vista will work with Windows 7. Go to dell.com, enter the model of your computer, choose Vista as your operating system, then go to Input Devices, choose the Creative Webcam and download the driver to your desktop (I suggest against using Dell's Download Manager, just download via your browser like you usually would). Then install the driver. With any luck your will be up and running with your webcam.
Go out to Lexmark web site and look for a vista update in their software download section. So this should solve your problem. Most of the cds which come with equipment do not contain vista software and drivers.
For windows Vista; it is imperative to run the Vista patch which can be found on the Dell website (Downloads and drivers). Make sure that you run the patch, after removing the printer USB cable from the computer. Restart the computer as the patch suggests and then install the Vista specific drivers, which also need to be downloaded from Dell Website. Again, do not connect the printer unless the installation software asks you to. For scanner issues, those who are unable to get anything scanned to their computer, and are able to print, it is essentialy a Firewall/Anti-virus issue. You can check that out by trying to scan using an application such as MSPaint (Start> type 'mspaint' > hit enter).
go to the dell website, download the driver for windows XP, before installing the driver right click on the install icon, go to properties, securities and select "Run as Administrator". Now install the driver. This should allow you to run your driver and software. I have the 30 gig and it worked for me. good luck and I hope this helps.
