The vehicle power cable is designed to plug into the suction cup mount. If this is not connected in this manner, the unit will not power on automatically as to prevent power surges.

How to perform a factory reset on a Garmin GPSMAP 172

The model number of your unit has been cut off so I can't find exact instructions. I found a page here where the guy said he held down Enter and Page keys while turning the unit on.

You should be able to find the user manual if you do a google search. It will have all the details.

Try "Garmin Gpsmap <your model> manual pdf" as the search string. (no quotes of course)

Hope this helps

My garmin edge 305 powers down as soon as i press the mode butto

I had the same problem after a rainstorm. Although the unit is supposed to be waterproof, it was not. Garmin replaced the unit when the mist did not clear after a few weeks, and the unit never worked after that.

Hold the power button to the left for approximately 15 seconds, then release it. It should reset the unit and turn ON. It happened to me before and it worked.

I have a Nuvi 200w that I received last December as a gift. This unit takes forever to aquire a satellite. The "DIFFICULY AQUIRING SATELLITES" message comes on 90% of the times I try to use it....

While under warranty.... yes.... Make sure it's been registered on their site before calling them and requesting an RMA number.

Good luck!
