Installing Leopard on my iMac

When I start installation I am told Leopard can't be installed on my computer without making changes which will result in erasing all my data. Is this true with no way out? My Imac has Intel innards. iMac 6.1, OS 10.4.11, 2.16 GHz, Intel Core 2 duo, Memory 1 GB.

Well..what operating system is currently on the mac now? this is not a usual thing to lose all the data, so it must be a fundamental shift..

there are other alternatives, too, like online backup..

There are ways out but a clean install is always the best way to go especially if you do not have multiple partitions. The current installation partition ( What type of partitioning is on there) EXT3, NTFS, FAT etc?

What do you mean by a desktop memory unit? If you mean a flash drive yes if the flash drive has a big enough capacity, if not i would suggest you burn the data into a DVD or CD.

Hi,

Yes you will have to clean the disc.
But if you have another mac hook it up to another mac, boot in firewire slave mode, and save thefiles.. (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583)

My speaker stop working on my xp

Check the physical speakers and see if you have it turned on and make sure the volume is not too high.

Check the Audio Sound Properties (in the Control Panel) on the computer to adjust the volume and to make sure it is not on mute. Click Start/Control Panel and look for Audio or Sound and open it. Adjust the volume controls and make sure it is not on mute.

You can also get to the Audio and Sound properties by clicking the little megaphone at the bottom right near the time. Open it and check the volume and make sure it is not on mute.

Maybe you have a virus or infection that is messing with the sound. Try downloading and installing MalwareBytes then run a Quick Scan.

Go to www.google.com and in the search box type: "Download cnet Malwarebytes" (without the quotes). Download and install malwarebytes from the sites download.cnet/malwarebytes. When the site opens up click on the Green Download button on the left. Do not click the Red Download button, that's junk. When it finishes installing the Gui Interface will open up with an offer to Accept a Trial Version or Decline. CLICK DECLINE you want the totally free version. Run a QUICK SCAN. As it scans, if it finds infections the number will be in red. When it finishes scanning, click SHOW RESULTS. A notepad text document will open up showing you the results. You can close the text document and go back to the Gui Interface where you will click REMOVE SELECTED RESULTS. The objects will already be selected for you. When it finishes removing the objects click ok and it will sometimes reboot your machine.

If the above steps fail to solve the problem try downloading and install the Audio Drivers from your computer manufacturer's website.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Acer Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download and install the Audio drivers.

Try using the VLC Player. It comes with drivers and codec. I've seen it solve many sound and audio issues.

Try using VLC as your player. Go to www.google.com and in the search box type "download vlc" (without the quotes). Look for the Video Lan download from site www.videolan.org/vlc Download and install it. It downloads and installs in 3 minutes or so. It's a very fast player, smooth and it can play just about any type of dvd formats and media. It's totally FREE.

You need make some changes in your computer before installing XP
1. On start up, press F2 to enter BIOS 2. Expand the "Drives" section 3. Go to "SATA Operation" 4. Change this from "RAID Auto/AHCI" to "RAID Auto/ATA"
You will be able to install XP now

try installing afresh from scratch.....
dont clone
try use a smaller partition for C (say 60 - 80GB)
boot from the XP disk(change boot seq in BIOS to boot from CDROM)
and install fresh copy....

Is there an administrator password for imac 17 combo ap with os x leopard

Yes usually when you install the os you HAVE to give a root password.. To Reset it You need the os X disc.. Boot from the disc But don't install the OS again! Just click through windows far enough until you get the regular set of choices on the menu bar. One of those menus is the ultitiles and one of the choices on that menu is Reset root password..

I put a snow leopard disk into a old slot loading 600 mhz IMAC running 10.4.11 with the intention of upgrading it. Now I'm getting a gray screen with flashing question mark. I didn't do anything but insert...

Try restarting and holding down the command and C keys at startup. This should eject the disk. If that doesn't work, restart with the mouse button held down. This is also to eject the CD. If it doesn't boot correctly after the CD is out, restart holding command, option, O and F. This should bring up an open firmware command prompt screen. Type in "reset-all", without the quotation marks, and press enter. This will restore the PRAM and NVRAM to factory defaults and should allow normal booting. It may take a bit longer to boot the first time after you do this.

While trying to install OS10.5 and it will attempt to but it freezes, you the Apple booting circle it stops.

Probably the OS 10.5 version your're installing is not compatible or supported by the system motherboard of your computer model Apple Power Mac G5. per my research from Apple website herewith is their solution quote on what applicable OS to install for such model: "Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) and iMac G5 (iSight) models require Mac OS X 10.4.2 or later, you can t install Final Cut Pro 3.x or earlier versions on these computers. Final Cut Pro 3.x and earlier versions are not supported on any computer running Mac OS X 10.4". best regards

Need help installing pc game

What game for one.  if it is an intense game with lots of graphics that makes your computer cry when trying to load then that could be your problem, it could be you have one or more pieces of hardware or software installed that conflict, it could be anything.  try installing it to a different computer and see f you get the same result.  if you do then your install files are corrupt, but if not then it is probly either a setting in the computer or a conflict.

Trying to install software for new canon pixma mx700 on my imac (os leopard) every time i try the computer freezes

check if any updates to the software/driver is avaliable for you try with the most updated version

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=123&modelid=15651#DownloadDetailAct

compatibility is not an issue as your printer is supported by your os, and there's nothing I saw in the FAQ,

you may want to write to cannon with specifics on your problem as they may have other suggestions:

When I try to install Leopard on my iMac Iget a message that it cannot be installed on my computer unless I make some changes which will erase my hard disc completely. Is there no way around thiks?

That is because Leopard will reformat the drive. Best option is to backup what is on your hard drive then follow the installation from there. It makes the OS more stable that way.

I am trying to install a Hp L780 printer but i am not getting no results

When installing an HP printer, it is very important to NOT plug in the printer until the installation specifically tells you to. Uninstall the printer, reboot and start again. Make sure the printer is off and not connected to the computer. Insert installation disk, and follow the prompts. Only connect the printer when the installation tells you to. Good Luck
