Sony KDF-50WE655 Was fine the picture went dim

My Sony KDF-60WE655 was working just fine the all of the sudden it went dim. It is still possible to view a program but not well. I have the manual and have adjusted the brightness but with little influence. Any ideas to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Power light once, then power and OPC twice simultaneously. what would that be?

Hey Vince, not sure of your model, but this may help. Last year, my older Sony started acting up. I would hit the power button and the red light would flash, fan would come on, no picture and then would power down. I bought a replacement bulb from Amazon and that solved it! Still using it today! Hope this helps!

I need to know how to check the bulb in my Sony KDF-50WE655 DLP TV

The lamp cannot be tested except to see if it comes on and stays on in the set when it is turned on---2,000 hour life is normal.

If a fault with the lamp itself the set should have the lamp light blinking or change color.

Some of these lamps will get rather dim just before they fail.

It is Lamp/ Bulb that is near to end of its life span.

Most likely, you need to replace the Lamp in your set. It's easy to do; the replacement lamp will even come with simple instructions on how to do it.

There is a rare, rare possibility that the Lamp is OK and that the Optic Engine is causing the dim picture; however, of the hundreds of slimline projection sets I've worked on, I can count those rare instances on one hand.

Get you a lamp.

The optical block is defective. Sony sometimes warranties these even after the 1yr warranty has expired. Contact Sony support and have you full model and serial number handy.

Sony lcd kdf-50we655. alot of blue spots. now..

Yep. New lamp. I believe that it is an XL2100U for the kdf-50we655. Should run about $200.00.

If you have your original owner's manual, it will walk you through changing the lamp. If you do not have it, then it should be available to find the manual on the support section of or on

I hope this helps you...

Screen became dim over time and then blank. Red LED lights blinks when on and sound is fine. Is this the bulb, unlike the others that went suddenly?

There is more than one flourescent tube in your TV, It could be possible that one after the other has failed, these should usually last a few years depending on usage.

If it is not the tubes then there may be a fault in the backlight inverter although this would more likely show up as a sudden failure.

How old is your TV?
