Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-24FS120 24" TV

1 Answer

Sound fluctuates My TV has developed a sound problem.  The sound goes kind of wildly from really soft to really loud, and lots of static.  Sometimes it will be normal for a bit, but basically it's unlistenable.  Is this a big problem?  Is it worth getting fixed?  (I can't even lift the thing, and don't have a car...)

Yes its worth getting it fixed.as its the problem in your main boards capacitors they r gone faulty and needs to be replaced.

still before taking it to the repair center remove all the external devices from the tv and then un plug the main wire of the tv from the power outlet and then plug it again after 10 minutes and without connecting the external devices check whether the same sound problem occurs.if not the problem is due to the external device which you had connected.and if the same sound problem occurs then take it to the repair center.

Sound problems

I have had the identical problem from the beginning. It happens in humid weather. Unplug the set while it's on, wait a second, plug it back in, and turn it on. Sound should be fine.

Background sound too loud

Thank you, everyone! I thought maybe I was losing my mind. I can hardly watch a lot of the TV shows anymore due to the inappropriate use of music -- either it's too loud or there's just too darned much of it. Come on, TV producers! You are supposed to get better with time, not worse! Thank goodness I'm not alone.

Bad connections in tuner. If your really careful, lots of very small parts, you can resolder the cracked solder ground connections to the metal box and metal shields.

It seems it's one of those "vintage" sets. I don't imagine that the problem is very major since such (older) sets are known to develop bad joints, especially around the larger components (funny, sounds just like a problem that humans have). It might not be necessary to replace the LOPT. Just resolder as many joints as you can see. Usually the ones reponsible for arcing will leave visible signs of burn. The acrid smell you detected was probably ozone (given off when high voltage ionizes oxygen in the air). Good luck, if you haven't already solved the problem.

Audio has a lot of static

You can possibly diagnose the problem by trying a different speaker,it does not have to be the same shape as the original but it has to have the same amount of resistance (ohms),radio shack might have one that you can try or one from a broken radio ,if you use one with different value it might not sound as loud but we are trying to see if you hear the static or is gone. You need to unplug the unit from the wall, remove the back cover and locate the speaker, disconect the wires and reconect the one to try then plug the set and turn it on,the antenna will need to be reconected too.Is the most simple test you can do without getting in too deep.Let Us know how it goes by a way of a new question or if you need more information.

Static on screen and then turns itself off then on

My first aproach will be to see if the tv reacts to tap on the sides if you see a reaccion when you do it most likely you have a loose conection and need to call someone to find it and resoldered it.Dont do it yourself if you dont know how.
