Question about Pioneer DVR-233 DVD Recorder

Open Question

Pioneer dvr 233-s recorder stops after 15 seconds when recording & wont record, but will still play disc.

I have a pioneer dvr-2333-s recorder. When I try to record it will only start to record for about 15 seconds then stops & doesn't record to the disk. Not only did I check the owners manual to make sure the dvd-r & dvd-rw's that I have been using are compatable with the recoder, but I have been using the same same brands for over 1 1/2 years with no problems. It also seems to have a problems initializing, & if you go into the menue & try to initialize the disk in video or vr mode it won't let you do either. When the problem first started I checked to make sure that the disc were clean & not scrated up, I even used a dvd lense cleaning disk to clean it with. This worked the first few times, but this no longer helps. I can't get it to record no matter what I try. However it has no problems at all playing any dvd's. I was wandering if something could possibly be wrong with the hard drive or if maybe it had some thing to do with it not reading the disk right.

no Sir there is nothing to do now because there will be no tracking of data apart from another pioneer dvr-225. Try inserting the disc in a similar dvd player! Please vote me solved Patrick

SOURCE: Cannot record DVD-R's

I could not record DVD-R's on my 633H.
Calling Pioneer I was told that I had to use DVD-R's rated no more than 4X.
I ordered 4X DVD blanks and have not had a problem since.
However, when I told the service man at the hi-end store where I bought the unit what Pioneer had said and that it fixed my problem, he said it was baloney and to bring it in and he'd have them fix it - that it should handle DVD's supporting higher write speeds.
I didn't take it in as the 4X blanks are cheaper and I don't want anyone mucking around in my machine when it is working OK..

I cannot play burned dvd's from this system in other dvd players becahse I cannot finalize the dvd. How do I finalize?

The recording may have used all the media on the disk because you let it run until it was full.
Now, there is no room to finalize the disk.

Play this back on the machine where it was recorded while recording it to another DVD recorder..
This time, BE THERE to stop the recording.
Set the recorder to a speed that leaves at least 10 minutes extra space for finalization.

Can't record on dvd+rw disc what kind of disc do I need Thank You

There might be a firmware upgrade to allow this I would use DVD-R for full compatibility however DVD+R media from Philips is increasing in compatibility with most NON Philips and Sony players.

How to record dvd in ordinary format?

I will presume it plays back fine on your dvd recorder.
In this case, you need to "finalize disc" for it to be playable on other dvd players.

Also, possibly, If you are using a dvd-ram disc, you must make sure that the dvd-player you are trying to use even supports dvd-ram. Most will NOT.

Also, Make sure you are not recording in VR mode. Only some very new dvd-players will support VR mode discs.
