For a solution you told me what was wrong. I need to know how to make it work.

  • Anonymous Oct 14, 2008

I bought the exact same fridge the same week as you and have had exactly the same issues. The first icemaker mechanically broke and would not make ice (would make ice but not harvest it). Had this replaced via warranty. Now I have ER IF and they had me unplug it for four hours and thaw out the ice maker fan.... no luck. Tried many times, didn't work. Also, about a month ago, the freezer quit working for about 12 hours. After cleaning up the mess, it was blowing cold again. They are extending my warranty for free and sending out someone to repair it. They say ER IF means a ice maker fan issue, I think it means for *******, because thats what I am for buying this fridge.

I have the same problem with a LFX25980ST. Where can I buy the fan motor so I can fix it myself? I have a feeling that you cannot buy them because they fail so often and they make more money by forcing you to call a service rep. I spent $2800.00 on this refrig 15 month ago and I am highly disappointed that it is failing this soon.

I have the same fridge- purchased 8/07. Fridge is 1.5 yr old. The "ER IF" code appeared. We unplugged for 4 hrs. plugged back in and the error appeared again. It seems that there is a pretty consistent problem here and LG should be ashamed of itself for delivering poor quality on a rather expensive fridge. Any hints on how to fix this....?? Im pretty handy w/repairs.

    Thank You !!

ER IF appears on front panel. It stands for Icemaker Fan, which apparently does not operate when this error code is showing. Bought same model on July 4th, 2007 and in service Sept 2007. Had service techician out and he said it may be stuck relays in the control board. He tapped the board a few time and it worked...for a day.....then error code came back....and then left...and came back...you get the picture.

Owned the LFX25960st since 2008. In 2010 same problem ,no ice, roll bar did roll, no water in tray. Manually poured water into tray. It would only partially freeze.SOLUTION= Unplug fridge, empty freezer and thoroughly check back plastic wall inside freezer ,also check for sagging plastic ceiling . Upper left corner of back panel is ice fan motor (2 screws secure it).Do not remove them just yet or fan will drop down inside condensor area.
My back panel and ceiling had been warped and pulled away by cramming to much frozen food into top drawer. Causing ice fan misalignment with duct leading to ice tray in the door. An expensive fridge shouldnt be built this cheap. Only 1 phillips head screw secures the back panel. If you tackle this job = remove freezer door (ph. head on L and R drawer slide) then lift entire stainless door up 6 inches and pull away from fridge. REmove drawer slides on left. I didn't remove right side. Phillips head screw removed from top center of back panel, pull panel out ,(top edge pulling down and out).Panel will stop half way out. wires unplug from top left corner first.squeeze tab plugs on wires. panel out,,,check and repair foam around fan blower port. It is all about pressurized air blowing up thru ceiling thru tiny ductwork into ice tray.
Confirm that ice fan runs at a fast speed (sounds like bathroom vent fan)only smaller. Reassemble all. One more thing.Open left door. The 2 round air ports on left edge of fridge wall. The top port may be modified for increased air flow by removing center part of plastic grid-work with a utility knife. Bottom port not nesessary, for you want cold air flooding in,,,not out. Modify the top door port also (snip out the crosshatch rubber in the very center). Much more cold air into ice tray area. After all the quirky hassle of being an LG owner ,we really like it as of right now.

    Hello tr-6
Being that you had the icemaker was already changed once before, and you are still having the same problem, I detect that you need an actual hands on diagnoses.

My LFX25960st LG stainless refrigerator ice maker isn't working, it'll make a few ice cubes every couple of days and now on the touchpad it says ER IF and i can't touch anything, how can i fix my problem?

Remove the fresh water hose coming into your refrigerator and check the water flow with a small bucket. This actually sounds like a replace water filter error. Some IF error codes break down to Inline Filter.

Ice maker don't make ice and display code error

The ice fan is frozen. It is located behind the rear panel inside the freezer drawer. I had the same problem in November 2008 that was fixed under warranty. They replaced the fan and housing, and the panel duct assembly (both because a design revision provided a way to drain the water that was freezing the fan), and the main controller board (presumably because there was a new defrost program, but also because of the Energy Star settlement.) If your refrigerator is out of warranty, you can remove the freezer drawer to get at the panel behind it. Remove and defrost the fan housing. Drill some small holes in the bottom of the fan housing for drainage. Put it back together and see if that solves the problem.

Error code 1F

ER IF means the icemaker fan is malfunctioning. Common cause is ice buildup in the fan shroud. LG has recently upgraded that shroud to drain off moisture that collects in there. The icemaker fan, when looking in the freezer, is the one on the left.

Very common for the icemaker itself to fail during the first year, have replaced many. They have since changed the design of it and it seems to have solved the problem.
