Question about Pioneer SD-533HD5 53" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Got color curves on Pioneer SDF-P5107

The color distortion started few inches from the bottom, went away for a couple weeks and now is back and it almost half the screen. Have heard about replacing convergence ICs, is it applicable to this model? or do I need to replace the whole assy, which i read cost about $350.00? Is it be a costly repair? Thanks a lot.

I checked out the convergence fix site (it looks easy to do) and opened up my tv. mine I guess is different that I only found 1 IC behind a silver heatsink (STK4274) on the top of the board and another IC located on the under side of the board which is bigger (STK 4277). And this board assembly I accessed from the front in between the speakers. Since the locations of the ICs and how it is accessed (all different from the site instruction) now I'm wondering if these are the same two ICs that I will need to replace? Can you please help me out with this.

    Thanks again,

    John

I plugged my laptop in today and the colors on my monitor are extremely bright and distorted. I rebooted with no improvement. Help

  • Hi, "right click on a empty area of the Desktop Screen, when the window opens, select the Personalize Icon, it should be at the bottom, in the next window, click on the "Display Settings" category. Now you'll be in the Display window for the "Monitor; by trial bases select the "Resolution," move the (arrow to the highest setting, 1366 by 768 pixels... ), after doing this click on the "Apply and OK buttons, so that the change will take effect. "You can go back a couple and do this a few times to get the right visual settings. You can also adjust the [Color], example: [16 to 32 bits], and the "Color" in the [Advanced] area by clicking on the [Color Management] button. "Any other areas "I do not "recommend making changes." Try making a note of the changes you made; just in case! Note: You may need to restart the computer, if you don't see the changes right away! "Rating the solution for its "helpfulness, is appreciated, thanks."

GE 52 inch projection tv picture is dancing

First a couple of things:

1) Could you please try to describe the picture a bit. Is it curved toward the center from the top and bottom?

2) Can you please update this with the model number?

With the description thus far, I suspect a few bad connections in the convergence circuit, but with the info requested above, I should be able to confirm that and provide you with some repair options.

Hope to hear back soon.

Thanks,
Dan

Sudden discoloration, ghosting, bowed horizontal lines in top and bottom of picture

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture
