Try downloading the software from an alternate source such as this one:
http://www.soft32.com/Download/Free/Adobe_Macromedia_Flash_Player/4-500-1.html

Also, I would suggest ensuring that the software doesn't have preinstalled remnants hanging out in your Add/Remove Programs (Start->Control Panel or Start->Settings->Control Panel). If so, uninstall it and try downloading it again. Lastly, it's possible that your browser is using pre-existing cache. If this is the case, I would flush cache (CTRL+F5) or simply try another browser. If using Internet Exlorer, try Firefox (http://getfirefox.com) or another alternative. If already using Firefox, try IE.

Also, I just dealt with a Vista Laptop with the same problem. I could not get Adobe Flash to load correctly because of the permissions. I had to download a tool from Microsoft to reset the premissions. The tools is SubInAcl.exe @ Microsoft's site :

When using some programs, the screen is too big for the monitor so that images and text disapear off the side. How do I fix this?

Looks like your monitor is rather too small for the application/programme or you do not have drivers installed for the vga (graphic card)

Most or almost all programmes use the default and common screen size of 1024 x 768. and this cannot be achieved on older monitors or even on some smaller modern monitors and also when you do not have drivers installed for the vga.

To achieve this follow the steps below
  1. Right click on the desktop
  2. choose properties
  3. click on the settings tab
  4. use the slider and set the screen resolution to 1024 x 768
  5. accept to use that new resolution
  6. click ok and you are done
NOTE: To know if drivers for the vga are installed and working properly, perform the following steps from 3 above
  • after clicking on the settings tab
  • click on advanced
  • from the new dialog box click on the "adapter" tab
  • make sure that the memory size and relevant information is not showing as -unavailable-
  • look at the picture below for example of a pc with drivers installed and the vga set to 1024 x 768.
NOTE: The screen size may sometimes go higher that what i have stated and that should also work well only if your monitor supports that size well enough.

I keep getting a pop up saying something about macromedia flash player 8..what is this and why does it appear?

Macromedia Flash Player was installed on your computer at some stage. This player is used by a few WEB sites which displays movie like (Flash) files. When you go to a WEB site which displays Flash files, Macromedia can detect an older version of the Flash Player and prompts you to install a latest version of the Flash Player.
