I don't think I even want to try opening it up myself. I guess I will just have to take it in somewhere and have it done.

it will have to be opened up to determine the exact problem , might be a sensor , might be a belt, do you have and knowledge and or tools?

Your cassette may be too stuck & strong for the vcr to load. or check if the vcr set of driving & loading belts are not slack

My magnavox ZV457MG9 A loads a vcr tape crooked after a tape was stuck in there and we had to pull it out. any resolution to this?

Sounds like a mechanical issue which wasn't helped by forcing part of the carriage downward (I have seen this a million times and worse) You may also have a timing error in your machine which is causing the shutoff when rewind is selected. The carriage is in the wrong position in relation to the mode switch (for eject/load) and is possibly damaged in some way.

Assuming the damage to the carriage loading assembly is minimal to zero, the whole VCR mechanism will have to be re-timed (carriage re-aligned to the position of the guides and take up arm, etc. so that the entire mech is fully ejected and can load correctly) this can only be done in a service workshop by a qualified technician as it is very time consuming and may involve replacing some broken gears on the carriage (which was probably the reason tapes loaded crookedly in the first place), along with clean up and lubrication of other parts.

The good news is that it is a common thing for these to break (flimsy VHS decks with fragile gears) so it isn't too expensive to correct this but you may be without a unit for a few days while they fix the problem. If the cost of repair is reasonable, roll with it.

Tape Stuck

I've checked the entire user manual which notes problems like this need to be referred to authorized service personnel. Myself, I would unplug the entire unit, put it on a kitchen table using a phillips (cross-tip) screwdriver to remove the top metal shell. Remove at least 2 screws each side and 2-5 rear screws securing the top. Nothing like peering inside to see what is causing the VCR to get stuck and help remove it. No release pinhole or tape freeing ejector will work if the unit's tape is tightly wound around some internal object or the tape is stuck because something foreign is inside the unit. Take ur finger senses all around the VCR the open flap door for sensors also pushes the eject button too as the same time, when the right sensors it hit ur finger the VHS tape will come out.

I put a vhs tape in an the vcr turns off by it self a green light keeps flashing by where it says cst in. I have a Hitachi DVD/VCR COMBO DV-PF2U. I also can not get the tape out

Unplug the power supply for thirty seconds and plug back in, this will reset the processor and might eject the tape. If this fails the next step is remove the top of the combo unit this will give access to the vcr tape, if the tape is spewed in the machine and wrapped around the video head and other mechanical parts use scissors to cut the tape and carefully removing the particles, press power to eject the tape for normal operation. However! if the vcr tape is okay, there may be a loading problem, broken drive belt, bad idler assembly to name a few, this is where a technician will be needed but may not justify cost.

VCR tape loads and runs about 5-10 sec; then ejects

you need to clean the vcr with a cleaner that you can buy at a store. If that doesnt work then you need to take the 4 or 5 skrews out that hold the top on and look at the motor and gears move while you put a tape in and you should spot the problem pretty quick. It'll be with the round metal wheel that turns the tape.

VCR accepts tape, then turns off

I think that there is something wrong with the tape you are using. The locking mechanizm is stuck and when the VCR can't turn the reels it will eject the tape. I'm assuming that you didn't try other tapes to see if it acts the same. You can unstick the locking mechanizm by putting a pencil or something like it in the 1/4" hole between the reels on the back side of the tape. Just try pushing down on that brake release. This has worked for me. Good luck.

CST.IN Light

Put a tape in and eject it. It will then work. Just had this problem. CST IN means the VCR thinks it has a tape in. Trust me... Very fixable.
