Many thanks Thomas for your prompt reply.

I had a fiddle with the card after I posted the question and moved the slide on the side up and at the moment it's fine thank you!!

If it happens again will be in touch.

Been using the card for a few months so not a new one.

Hi

What size card is the card? I'm trying to find out what the maximum size is that your camera can accept... My Canon G9 can't use the 4GB card that my Nikon D50 SLR can use, so my first guess is that your card is too big for your camera... Is it a new card you just started using?

If you need more assistance just contact me, happy to help when I can as we are a digital camera repair business.

Good luck from Darntoothysam com

Pop the card out of the camera- there's a tiny switch on the card that locks it so you can't write over important photos.  Move the switch to the other position and you should be good.

I keep getting an memory card error message on my canon PowerShot

try doing a format with the camera. there should be an icon of a wrench in the menu--in this sub menu you will see "format." this action will erase anything on the card. i actually had the same problem with a canon camera, and this worked for me. Sometimes new flash cards are not compatible off the shelf--they need to be formatted. You should have at least flash cards to be sure card is not defective. Let me know if this helps!

Camera will not shoot

Did you try setting the slide switch on the side of the memory card? And if that doesn't work, did you try a different memory card?

Lens error message Canon Powershot A550

Canon A550 and A560 have the same body and most of the internal parts, including lens assembly are the same. Canon won't sell individual parts within the lens assembly. There could be two possiblities. One is (unlikely) that the lens assembly components have been knocked off from their position. The other is that because of a knock, or dropping the camera, the gears in the gearbox of the lens assembly are broken. These gears are the same as the ones in A530/A540, and are available from ebay for $12.50 including shipping. Checkout my site for how to open up the camera and the lens assembly to replace these:

http://pkrobot.freehostia.com/MiscElectronics2.htm

For A550 and A560, if you take it to the professional repair shop, it might not be cost effective, since it might cost around $90. Canon does not sell gears, so they might have to replace the entire lens assembly. The new camera is available these days for around $140.
