Or after the phone has been on for a while , the circut that detects connection to the network is getting to hot and not detecting a connection , so after the phone has been on for a while a chip that controls the connection is failing. turning off the phone for about 15 min. may enable you to use it again , but only till the chip heats up again then it won't connect again
how long before you can make calls again?

Hi, Its the problem with GSM bandwidths.
Which country are you trying to use in?
The signal will be full but the phone wont work. and yes, the SMS work...
Local China phones would work on European bandwidths which do not work in country like USA.
If the phone that you own is Quadraband it should work anywhere.
But according to your problem, it doesnt sound to be quadraband and it is a bandwidth problem. I am sure about this, since I too had this problem, which cannot be solved (coz the hardware is made like that).
:)

  • Anonymous Oct 13, 2008

You may want to dial your phone service provider to confirm the bandwidth match or mismatch.

Hi.

If this is a china made mobile phone then i would advice you to get it to your phone dealer
to get it checked.
Another solution could be to format your cell as this could be a virus problem.

Hope this helps.
If you have any other question do feel free to ask me.

Regards
Faraz

Just to verify malonejamie, is this an original Nokie made in china or a china cloned n96i? http://www.nokian96i.com/

becuase if not then it sure looks like you may need to have the phone updated...

  • Anonymous Oct 13, 2008

try to go to a local cellphone repair shop, and then have them reflash / reformat the operating system of the cellphone, usually third party softwares manuf designs a compatible OS for clone phones. this may cost you a little more around 30 dollars, but it may be worth a shot.
