Well if you hat the freezer on top normaly air leaks inside freezer through the drain tube, that air turns into condensation and creates a ice and cloges your drain. now water can drain down to pan everytime ref goes into defrost , and water leaks to bottom section to air ducts and air returns. there are several ways to solve this problem the cheapeste way is to unplug refrigerator for 2 days then plug back up and it should go back to normal another way is to install a heat probe on your drain attached to your defrost heater , and add a grommet on drain tube that will let water drain but it will keep air out and that will solve your problem.

Water is dripping into fridge compartment from section separating fridge and freezer compartments, otherwise, both seem to be working fine. unit was new in 2001, model ET21PK.

Hello,

That water is from the melting frost of the automatic defrost cycle. Their is drain in the freezer behind the back wall under the evaperator coil that is blocked, so instead of defrost water draining it's pooling in the freezer or in some case espically on models with the freezer on the top,the water is leaking from the freezer vents into the fresh food compartment.
The way to clear the drain is remove back plate and remove all ice build up and GENTLY make a small hole in drain through then totally flush w/warm water.
The exact location of drain is under the coil behind back freezer plate in the center

Good luck

I hope this helps

The problem is that your fridge's drain line (which is located in the freezer) is iced over. So water can't drain out of the freezer when your fridge enters it's defrost cycle. The freezer and drain line needs to be defrosted by hand. Or you can unplug the fridge and open the doors for a 2-3 hours. Eventully, if no action is taken, the ice build up in the freezer will block the cold air flow to the refrigerator compartment .

Pooling of water in fridge compartment of my Neff fridge/freezer

The defrost drain is clogged. Defrost drains usually get there clog right behind the back freezer panel. Remove this to get to the defrost drain and remove all built up ice and clear the drain and you should be fine. Hope this helps.

Removed everything from the freezes. Removed a false bottom from the freezer floor, 2 screws. There was an ice build up under this plastic bottom. I let the ice melt with the de-frost cycle (or frost free cycle). No more water dripping into the refrigerator compartment.

Water dripping within the fridge

Hi, The defrost drain behind the rear freezer panel is plugged. Remove the rear panel and clear the ice away from the drain. Then you will need to flush the drain hole with hot water to make sure it is open.
Some models require an after market drain heat kit.
Please get me your model # and I can look this up to let you know if you need that heat kit.

Thanks
Vic

Whirlpool Fridge makes a loud dripping sound all the time G56SHE

Erin,

The water you hear sounds like it's coming from the automatic defroster in the freezer compartment. It runs down a drain tube into the pan you describe under the fridge. The pan is heated and evaporates the water.

Just some possible explanations if you are hearing "lots" of water"

* You may be in a warmer, more humid climate
* The temperature and humidity in your dwelling is elevated
* The door gasket on the freezer may be leaking
* The freezer is too full
* The freezer door is not closing properly
* The freezer door is being left open for extended periods
* There is a problem with the defrost cycle

If you are hearing water running all the time, check the ice maker water line and fill valve (if you have an ice maker) - there could be a leak or other malfunction.

Having a water dripping from top of fridge!!

The problem could be a number of things but you have to know the top of the fridge is the bottom of the freezer (usually) and this surface must be colder than the air that's being circulated in the refg compartment. Obviously Side by Side or bottom freezer would be differant.

4 items to check :

1your air damper switch is set to give you a colder freezer and not allowing enough cooling and dehumidification in the fridge compartment (explanation below of the reason you have to have air flow unobstructed)

2 the defrost on the freezer is not taking place (Explained below)

3 the door seals are not sealing. Use a piece of paper like a $1.00 and slide between the door gasket and the frame if you can pull and push it and it not fold up the seal is open and not working.

4 some fridges have a energy saver switch which is a heater. This switch turns the heater off. It is not needed in everyone's home or locality so the switch may be set to "save energy" and thus not keeping the "dew" off the fridge (usually these heaters are only on the doors and possible on the outer sides of the fridge and not the ceiling, so I doubt this is it, but I do like to eliminate this).

One of the more common things is the defrost not taking place and this can be a verity of thing Ive seen drain lines stop up and refreeze eventually to the point where the upper part of the fridge is too cold not to drip when the humidity come up like in the spring time. A faulty defrost timer / initiator or a bad element or safety switch, bad wire can also cause non defrost.
Defrost is required because the freezer is where the coldest part of the refrigeration circuit is and it requires air from the fridge to move over the coil. When this movement stops a cold ceiling can result. It will eventually follow with warmer fridge temps as humidity and time progresses.

Hope this helps with the mystery of most common problems associated with:
having a water dripping from top of fridge!!
Please grade ma accordingly and GOOD luck!.
