Canon XL2 - eject button issue

I'm having issues with the 'eject' function of my canon xl2.
This morning, seemingly out of nowhere, this is began.  I had seen no previous signs until today.
Upon hitting the 'eject' button, nothing happened.  I had to hit eject about a dozen times before the carriage would go through its process and open up.  The mechanics seem to operate fine once it goes.  Once the ejection process actually starts, everything moves fine and seemingly without issue.  Also, upon closing the carriage it closes fine and goes back down fine.
However, it seems extremely sporadic.  It seems like I have to push the eject button many times before something will happen.  It seems more like some kind of connection issue, that when the eject button is pushed whatever connection must be made to trigger the carriage system to operate is just not making that connection.  That's my best guess.

Any idea if it's a simple/inexpensive repair, or a complete replacement of carriage parts and costly?

It is probably a faulty switch, in any case, either is the switch or a wiring problem, the camera must be taken apart to fix this.
The job must be done at a repair shop.

Yes, it seems a loose contact on the button's circuitry. The only way to repair this is to take it in for servicing, unless you're willing to live with it :)

Well, it all depends how many and what components need to be fixed/replaced. Call around and enquire from different shops. You can try the "Repair Service" box at the right. Enter your zip and you'll get a list of repair shops in your area. Who knows, they may even give you a discount if you say you were referred by FixYa :)

    Cheers!

What is the difference?

The Canon XM2 is a European PAL camera so if you're in the U.S. this is going to cause issues for you. The XL2 would be my choice based on previous experience, though.

My canon mini dv camera model no> xl2 is in

If you can't find the manual on Canon's website it's probably not a good idea to go elsewhere. Your best bet is to send it in to Canon and have their techs repair it.

I got the problem with my canon XL2 since last 3 months ago. The tape cannot unload sometimes. During recording and run out with tape, try to change with the new one but the cassette compartment cannot...

that is could be the cassette in switch or door swith inter mitent contact, or the mode switch for the mechanism position....
or a good clean up of the mechanism...
hope that will help you

How to hook wireless mic to canon xl2

Plug it into Audio 1 ports, switch to audio, not mic on the physical camera, then check that you have selected stereo 12 bit, 1,2 from the record audio menu.
Also note you have to push the button next to the audio meter to monitor different sources.

Cleaning tape jammed in canon xl2 camcorder

Take the camera to a reputable camera shop, there is honestly no way to do this at home, if you touch the video heads by accident, or accidently move something, it could spell big trouble. Also I to have an XL2, and canon might be willing to fix this for free from what I understand about their customer care plan (Best Regards)
