Question about JVC KD-S890 CD Player

Open Question

Wiring problem While hooking up my KD-S890, I noticed that my black ground wire coming out of the wiring harness caused a spark when it touched the car frame under the dash.  It isn't continuous, though.  The charge seems to dissipate after about a minute but it will even turn the player on briefly, without having the positive wire hooked up. I'm pretty confused, and I don't want to damage my car or my player.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kurt M

SOURCE: Can't set clock

hello Have radio on and then you have to hold down the SEL button on left for a few seconds. Then it will say "SET H" which is hour and turn volume dial left or right to move up or down. To set the minutes push either the left or right buttons on the selector on the far right. You can switch from minutes to hours here too. And once at "SET MIN" turn the volumes dial to go up or down. Hope it helps!! Took me a awhile to figure out (no manual here)

IS THERE A WIRE ON THE STEREO HARNESS THAT HAS TO BE GROUND. OR THE ACTUAL HANDBRAKE SWITCH TO BE GROUND. IS THIS DONE BY PUTTING THE POS WIRE TO EARTH

No, you don't want to ground your positive wires, EVER! Also, I would avoid using the hand brake switch for anything but what it was intended for. Most power harness ground wires are just plain black. If you can't find one, ground it to the chassis of the car somewhere. This is less than optimal, as it may induce a ground loop and cause a buzzing that matches the engine's RPM.

My jvc stereo will not power up but have found the black wire is live ?

hi peter, before you start using the rest of the harness cables find out if the harness you have is a jvc original for your model. the black wire is the ground/chassis cable only for a jvc kd-r411. you mite be using a compatible fitting harness whose " wire colour configuration" is incorrect for your model. cheers.

if your got a wiring harness you should be able to hook your ground up with a pre existing wire from the new harness it should be black if not and your looking for a place to ground it just below your steering colum is always a good place to ground anything right on the metal itself good luck

Difficulty wiring into GM harness

well if your trying to actively wire it up with the car battery still connected that is why you are blowing fuses. just a heads up too if you have a live connection while hooking up the cd player you could short out other electrical devices and you could be in alot more trouble thatn just blowing fuses. the black wire is what is blowing fuses its because you have it hooked up wrong to a wire that is sending voltage not recieving voltage. ground the black wire to the actual chassis instead of hooking it to the ground wire from the harness or whatever color its grounded to which shouldnt be anything but black if you have the black wire hooked up to ANYTHING that isnt black that is why you are popping fuses. so hook up the red yellow and make your own ground you shouldnt have any problems after that.

Having a hard time wiring a replacement taillight in 1999 Regal

You should just be able to find a hot wire 12v most likely the black wire, the ones with stripes are most likely tied in for trailoring lights. If there are only two wires 1 wire can go to a bolt or other bare metal to ground. You have a test light in the light itself, wire the 1 wire to a good ground and with the other end of the light wire touch to black wire with the appropriate turn signal on and when the light blinks in correct rhythem than viola, you have the correct wire. Direct current operates thru the light it doesn't have to be hooked up to alternate back to the power source like A/C. You could dissasemble the good/other turn signal and see which wire goes where, but with double element bulbs it is a 50/50 chance on which one is the turn lamp or the brke lamp. good luck.

Car cd player installation

Noooo, lol they should all have a seperate location, look at a wiring diagram from your factory speaker harness, or buy an adapter from scosche or something (available at wal-mart for like 7 bucks) to standardize them. And your speaker wire should not be hooked up to the ground EVER.

Black - Ground
Red - 12V
Yellow - Battery

The red and yellow may OCCASIONALLY be required to be at the same place, but i've only had to do this with a vehicle from the 60's.

Deck is powering off every 5 seconds

If radio stays on at low or no volume and cuts out when turning up you may have your battery backup voltage (yellow wire) droping below 10v under signal load. There is a circuit called backup check in radio that moniters Voltage It may seem ok when measuring without volume but under load it will fluctuate with the audio. Try hooking up Heavy guage Ground and Backup battery wires to prevent voltage loss across wires under load. Also check for any speaker that may not be producing proper sound when and if you can get radio working Disconnect wires to that speaker to see if radio will stay on. Just a couple of many possibilities.
