My TV is about 10 years old. When you first turn the TV on it stays on for about 15 minutes, then it turns off. Then you turn it on again it stays on for less than aminute before turning itself off again. Is the power supply going bad? What else could be causing this?

Re: sony kv 36xbr400 - Won't stay on
Problem is in the secondary power supply which provides power to high-voltage and scanning sections of main board. This is called BOARD D, and has the high-voltage section, flyback transformer, and control IC on it.
Can't be fixed by user, needs service tech and new part, around $300

I have same problem, over 10 years old, only started when turned on, but does it @ anytime now . any solutions ? and this thing does weigh a ton. never had a problem ever, great tv, great picture, etc., anytime a function is initiated screen blinks on off at will, stays on for the most part, no other problem, but can this be repaired or is it time to buy a new tv ?
How old is this tv?More than 5 years old.Not worth it to repair CRT tv at this prices.Tries unplug, replug an hour later, might help, see if reset itself.U can buy a pretty good 32" LCD tv at $400 or less these day.It not heavy as the CRT tv,it alot easier to move the tv around the house or other locations.

Are you serious? You have used that television... in particular that CRT well beyond its predictable lifetime. Congratulations. Those are early symptoms of CRT failure. Your screen may turn green very soon also. It will occur any moment now. It is not cost-effective to repair. Welcome to the next generation. You will be amazed and delighted with LCD, plasma or DLP technology. email@example.com
This sounds like the shutdown circuit is shutting down the TV due to an over current condition. This overcurrent condition is caused by a component in the HV section drawing excessive current.
the 5 blinks is a visual indication of the problem.
