I do not think it was intended to let user to disassemble and reassemble the unit. But if you are patient and careful, you can probably do it with great caution because it is a heating device. You do want to do anything wrong to cause fire if you damage anything.

emperature sensor. To fix this issue, you can try the following steps:
  1. Check the temperature sensor: Make sure the sensor is properly connected and that the wires are not damaged. If the sensor is damaged, you will need to replace it.
  2. Check the water flow: Make sure that there is adequate water flow to the heater. If the water flow is too low, the heater will not be able to function properly.
  3. Check the temperature settings: Make sure that the temperature settings on the heater are set correctly. If the temperature is set too high, the heater may not be able to function properly.
  4. Reset the heater: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to reset the heater. To do this, turn off the power to the heater, wait for at least 5 minutes, and then turn the power back on.
  5. Contact manufacturer or professional: If the above steps do not work, it is highly recommended that you contact Hayward customer service or a pool heating professional for further diagnosis and repair.
It's important to note that these steps are general guidance and the specific steps may vary depending on the model of your Hayward pool heater. Make sure to consult the manual for the specific steps and precautions before performing any maintenance or repairs on your pool heater.

Waterbed care & maintenance

Waterbed mattresses require very little maintenance. There are a few basic steps you can follow to help lengthen the lifespan of your waterbed mattress: the periodic addition of waterbed conditioner and proper water level maintenance.

Adding conditioner to your waterbed will help prevent the water from becoming motionless. If you fail to do this, the water will become stagnant and develop a pungent smell. Failure to add conditioner will also result in an accelerated deterioration of your waterbed mattress. Once every year and a half all you need to do is add 8oz of specialized waterbed conditioner to the water inside your mattress.

Maintaining a certain water level is an extremely crucial part of waterbed care. Overfilling/under filling your mattress can result in damage. Too much water can cause the vinyl to stretch while too little water could be damaging to the heater.

Unlike other mattresses, waterbed mattresses are much easier to clean. Simply wipe down the surface once a month with a vinyl cleaner and a damp cloth. This will clean off all dirt and dust mites that have accumulated over the past month.

I have a model 6G40PVW-40F water heater and we have no hot water... the thermostat light on warm/vacation is on and so are 2 other lights...If I diconnect it and re-connect it then it will start..the gas...

Most gas water heater problems today can be solved with yearly maintenance that includes cleaning burner parts, clean air intake, check venting, check electrical connections, bleed gas line, and check gas pressure.
Gas water heater manuals recommend yearly maintenance by service technician.

In past years, gas water heaters required less maintenance, but they were less energy efficient and more dangerous to operate.

Sounds like you have Intellivent gas control valve thermostat.
Open following link to identify gas valve and see error codes:
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Intelli-vent-gas-valve2.pdf
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-adjust-temperature-on-water-heater.html#intelli

Error light on vacation + 2 other lights = 3 possible conditions:
1) Wiring error: check outlet with circuit analyzer:
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Typical-circuit-analyzer-15.jpg
2) Pressure switch tubing not connected, air intake obstructed (clean intake), or vent exhaust obstructed (check for proper venting).
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Test-water-heater-vent-400.jpg
3) System in lockout: Low gas pressure, hot surface igniter not positioned correctly.

You can do some of this yourself.

Pilot will not stay light but will turn on and work properly

When having a problem with pilot and burner, the place to start is troubleshoot section in your manual.
Whirlpool is probably made by Craftmaster which I believe is a Rheem company, and Rheem makes a number of different models.
Some models have specific manuals and others have generic manuals.
Open Rheem water heater page and click on water that matches your water heater. On page that opens, click on tab that says 'specs' and then download manual.
http://www.rheem.com/Products/tank_water_heaters/gas_water_heaters

If none of those water heaters look like yours, open following link to help identify company website and download manual. Craftmaster website does not have instruction manuals.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-manufacturers.html

All gas water heaters require periodic maintenance.
Some require yearly maintenance.
The burner parts require cleaning.

C2 11 code

Before calling service technician, open following link for Rheem error codes and troubleshooting resources:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html

Error code C2 11 is 'no ignition'
Ensure you have gas to the appliance.
Ensure gas type and pressure are correct.
Bleed all air from gas lines.
Ensure gas line, meter, and regulator are sized properly.
Ensure appliance is properly grounded.
Check gas solenoid valves for open or short circuits.
Ensure igniter is operational.
Check igniter wiring harness for damage.

There is no service bulletin covering how to perform these actions.
Rheem will ask that you call qualified service technician, who can give you tips and tricks for keeping the unit working, including opportunity for yearly service that will eliminate the expected $1-8 monthly savings from owning tankless.
Read manual for yearly maintenance needed to keep unit working at prime efficiency.

Expected life time of Sta-Rite heater?

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

Overall heater life is often dictated more by the pool maintenance history and chemical usage than location. Generally speaking up here in the Midwest you can expect 12 - 15 years of service life from a heater. More if it gets pampered with such treatment as proper winter covering and regular cleaning and maintenance. Far less if chemical issues arise in a pool and are not dealt with properly. A heater can fail in a matter of weeks if water conditions are that poor.

So, to answer your question; with proper installation, maintenance and water treatment I’d put it at 15 – 18 years before the heater will have spent itself from wear.

If this answer does not fix your problem or you are not sure about part or all of this post, please comment with additional details prior to rating the answer. Positive feedback is appreciated once your problem is solved!
