Question about Whirlpool Dryers

1 Answer

Dryer problem this dryer works fine for the first 5 minutes or so. the ignitor heats up, the gas fires up and everything seems ok. After about 5 minutes, the gas inexplicably shuts off and will not turn on again. you have to shut the dryer off, wait about 5 minutes, and then turn it on again. it then repeats this process. I replaced the gas dryer sensor, but that hasn't seemed to solve the problem. I'm wondering what else it could be.

OK I found the gas valves on the schematic, and it looks like I can buy them seperately from the rest of the gas valve. Since I am an engineer, I have to ask... what do these coils do, and what is their failure mode? Why do they seem to work for 5 minutes and then shut off. That failure mode seemed more like a feedback loop problem (hence I replaced the sensor) than a source problem. Just curious. Thanks for the help.

Replacing the coil valves didn't seem to solve the problem. There were two coil valves on the gas valve. To replace them all I had to do was remove a retainer clip and swap them out. Each sat around a steel post, and neither had any physical interface with the gas flow (I didn't have to turn off the gas to swap them out). Did I replace the wrong thing, or is there still something else wrong?

HI the coils keep the gas flow. going , one gets worn it gets hot breaks the coils continuity. and wont open up, to let the gas in.

Just hooked up my gas dryer. worked great thru 5 loads and then quit heating, help!

What did you do move it from one place to another place? You may have shifted the lint around and cause a limit to get tripped.
Here is the manual and more

A gas dryer has a burner assembly consisting of an ignitor, 2 coils, and a flame sensor. The ignitor does 2 functions. It lights the fire and confirms the fire is on like a thermocouple. When it is heated it holds in the coil. If the glowbar is not lit then the coils will not open. The ignitor must be heated to allow that. So if the ignitor and flame sensor is fine and the dryer works when cool but stops heating when hot I would say you need to replace the solenoids.

Roper RGX5634KQ2 Dryer will fire initially, and heat up. It will stay fired up for around 1-2 minutes, and go out. After another couple minutes, the igniter fires, but there is no flame. This continues...

Running but not firing & heating

The problem is the dryer coils are failing. They tend to fail as they heat up. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. There is a video at http://appliancehelponline.com/gdryertroublevideo.html that will walk you thru this.

Gas......starts to heat then quits minutes later.

Problem is your gas solenoid coils. When they get worn they will open til they get out then shut. They will need to be replaced.
