I have a Phillips 32" 32PF9541/10 ambi light lcd tv that over the last few months has turned in to a fancy radio.

The pitcure comes on then after a few seconds the screen goes black and the lights and sound are fine. Progressivly getting worse where now it just goes black, you have to turn the tv off and on for about 20mins before the pic will stay on for any lenth of time.

As my set is only just 13 months old you would have hoped the lovely people at phillips would like there customer service to shine through...........

Not a chance ! its taken 2 months and trading standards to make phillips see sence, finally getting my tv repaired free.

Let this be a lesson to us all "Spend that little more and buy a better Brand, Leave Phillips where it belongs....... ON THE SHELF!!!"

Red light blinks 3 times then power goes out

That is most likely a bad diode in the power supply. It will require repair but it should be reasonable. There are youtube videos showing the repair if you are handy.

Im not 100% that this is the cause, but it seems like it

My screen is black, why do I not have a picture?
Answer Antenna is not hooked up to television.
  • Make sure that the antenna cable is correctly connected to the television. If it doesn't work there appears to be no signal.
Problem is caused by television broadcast
  1. Push 'INFO' button.
  2. If the screen shows channel number (1, 2, 3, etc) try another channel. Not all channels broadcast at all times.
  3. You may have a signal problem. Contact cable provider or local broadcaster regarding the specific channel.
Television is in EXT or SIDE mode, and there is no external source provided, so screen mute (black screen) is activated.
  1. Push NEXT SOURCE button on the remote.
  2. On the screen appears all sorces.
  3. Press the UP button to switch to the TV mode.
If you are using an accessory device (DVD, DVR, or VCR), be sure the device is on and running.
Blank screen when connecting to the accessory (DVD, STB, PC) device via HDMI to HDMI.

Answer
  • Make sure the cable is well connected .
  • To check which connection is selected, Press the i+ button on the remote control.
  1. When you see Blue mute / blank screen and the i+ display does not indicate any video resolution indication then there is no valid signal detected.
    • Make sure the HDMI output of the accessory is valid by changing the video output resolution to a resolution which the TV can handle.
  2. When you see a blank screen and the i+ display shows a video resolution indication then the connection is correct.
    • The blank screen is caused by the accessory device and not by the TV.
    • To detect and remedy the problem caused by the accessory device, check the instruction manual of this device.
  3. If the problem remains : reselect the HDMI external source input by changing to the other HDMI input and back to the connected HDMI :
    1. Press AV on the remote
    2. Press up and then ok
    3. Press AV again
    4. Press down and ok
    5. The compatibility check process between TV and accessory device will start over again.
  4. Reset (switch off and back on) the TV and also reset the accessory device.

My 47 inch lcd tv screens goes pitch black randomly for a few seconds at a time, no reason. The sound is still audible in the background so the probelm is just with the picture. any suggestions

Either 3 boards may cause this issue and need servicing before it grows into a larger more expensive problem.....

Inverter boards
power supply
Time control board

Its a sustain problem and a really easy repair shouldn't cost too much.........

LG 47" LCD FLAT SCREEN

IF IT WASNT DIGITAL HD I WOULD HAVE SUSPECTED HIGH VOLTAGE POWER SUPPLY BUT THAT DOES NOT EXIST HERE.
Well, not completely true; the fluorescent backlight is still a high voltage device, even if only hundreds of volts instead of kilovolts, and either the lamp(s) or the power supply for it (them) is causing the dropout of your picture. When it does it next time, look at the screen from various angles, I think you will see that video content is still there.

Vizio GV42L LCD TV screen black when turn TV on first time

If you are using a set top box this might be caused by turnig the box on at the same tie as you turn the tv on or slightly after you turn the tv on.  If you are using compnent or HDMI inputs the set needs to see the signal as it is turned on to know what formt the signal is in.
