Motor removal for Roper RGX4634KQ Gas Dryer

My Roper RGX4634KQ Gas Dryer hums when I press the start button. I suspect the motor has gone bad. Before I spend $100 on a new motor, is there anything else that could be causing the dryer to do this?
How do I remove the motor?

I had allready removed the drum. The belt looks good. I jumped out the door switch so that power would get to the motor. When I press the start button the motor hums the way an electric motor does when it's seized up, but the motor turns freely. I think if it has a capacitor that is failing it might cause this symptom, but more likely would not allow any current to get to the motor at all. Unfortunately I don't have any way to test it.

Hi,

The windings in the motor may have gone to ground, not enough to stop the rotor from freely spinning and tripping the breaker, but enough to cause motor to hum idlely . Unhook electrical supply, take off electrical connections, tip unit on its side, remove motor mounting bolts.

When it humms, does it turn at least little bit ?
If the motor rotates freely, try rotating little bit and then try to start it.
You can check the motor alone by connecting the power directly to it (check motor power ratings).
If it works, something wrong with circuit, if not, motor is bad.

You will most commonly measure two electrical parameters when you're troubleshooting your appliance: resistance (measured on units called "ohms") and voltage. Typically, both of these measurements are made on a single meter called a multi-meter, which you can set to measure either ohms or voltage.

I moved and cannot locate the pilot/ignition source on the dryer to relight it.

It's been many, many years since dryers had pilot lights. Look for an igniter that may have gone out. It should be behind a service door.

The dryer is humming but not spinning when i removed the top cover i see the belt in the middle of the drum. Do you know where it supposed to go?

is belt disconnected? Is belt broken? Will dryer rotate manually? if so ,

I suspect that the belt broke. order a new belt Home depot has a good parts service or try other local appliance places. You will have to disconnect power first, Remove front panel to access drum Dont forget to unplug door switch there should be a plug front top right, in the rear on the bottom there is a motor and an idler/tensioner. install the new belt and under tensioner Yes the path will seem awkward and re assemble. Also now is the time to vacuum lint out
