HI thanks for your question. first i would clean the lint, from the inside, and the venting to the outside. try that. if the motor just over heats, because of lint on it. this could solve your problem. if not then the motor needs to be replaced. thanks the appliance doc. please rate my answer. thanks.

did you clean the LINT filter? try vacuuming the lint trap area. wet or damp lint can get built up in the lint trap area. it is good to regularly clean the area as it is a Major fire hazard.

The cycling or operating thermostatis often the problem when a dryer runstoo hot, but there are also other things that can make it run hot also.

Here is a tip that I wrote that gives more details about why a clothes dryer will get too hot.

The dryer runs for awhile and then shuts itself off without completing cycle.

It could be shutting down on 'High Temp Limit' or door switch dropping out. Is vent line clean (feel air when it is running outside at vent.) Should have good air flow.

Heat shuts off after few minuets of running

Normal 0 Hi, You need to change the coils on the top of the gas valve. This is a very common problem with the newer gas dryers. We have them for $29.95 on out web site www.whilpoolpartssurplus.com
If I can assist you further on how to replace them, please let me know.

Thanks
Vic

Dryer runs for awhile, then shuts down.

I can think of two possibilities, the first one you should do regardless.

1. If the vent is blocked, the dryer will overheat and there are temperature sensors in the dryer that will shut it off. Make sure that the vent is clear all the way to the outside. If it has a plastic hose at the dryer, throw it away and replace with a metal one. Make sure that the vent hood on the outside is clean and the flap is opening freely.

2. The black shavings could be from the drive belt or the bearings on the drum. If either are bad, it could cause the motor to overheat, which would then shut off.

Dryer starts then shuts off

it seem like your motor could be faulty (overheating) causing the thermal overload to open, stopping the motor after awhile it will cool down and the thermal will reset, if this the case the bearings or the windings could be faulty
