Question about Individual Heritage Family Tree Deluxe (PRM-FD2) for PC

"Not enough free space" but there is plenty - Family Tree Deluxe

I am trying to make a chart on Generations Family Tree Deluxe. After I have selected the person and how many generations and click chart I get the message "There is not enough free space on the disk" but there is 10.4 gb of free space. This happens if I try to make a Pedigree Chart, Descendent Chart, or even a Person Sheet. It won't create anything. It says the destination for the charts is Easy this supposed to be a folder, because I don't see one under the details in Window Explorer. The sample chart included is under a folder entitled "Charts." At any rate, I'm stuck with all my information in here and I can't chart it in any way.

The 10.4 Gb of available space was on the C drive, which is where the software resides. I checked it through Windows Explorer, right clicked on C drive, then Properties to see the amount of space available. I don't have trouble running any other programs and I would wonder how much space does the program need to make a simple person sheet? Also, I've had this program for 3 years and the charting function has never worked - always the same error message. I'm just now getting around to trying to figure it out! Thank you!!

The Family Tree folks indicate that you have to buy an upgrade of Generations to run the program on Windows XP or newer. There must be a way to increase the parition that claims "not enough free space". Can someone advise??

There might be 10.4 Gb of space on your hard disk but i am guessing that it would be on a different partition than the one on which you have installed this software which most likely is your C drive. So check your C drive whether it has free space or not and then if not then uninstall any softwares which you are not using frequently and also delete what you think can be deleted or transfer it to another partition where you have space. I think it should solve your problem.

Try saving a copy of your family tree as a .GED file. for example "familytree.ged" onto a USB drive or disk, then put said disk in your MAC, open family tree maker and try and import your tree.

Files using the .ged extension seem to be the most portable.

Does not work on windows 7

Right click on the EXE File and select properties. Goto Compatibility and run it in compatibility mode for Windows XP. Disable visual themes, disable desktop composition, and disable high DPI scaling. That should resolve your problem.

I am getting an error message when trying to add stuff

Not too sure if problem is with operating system or the FTM program. Check if you have enough disk space. You may also need to check that your OS works properly, there is a free program for this
check your system, that might improve.
Its also worth to check for errors when the FTM is running, In Menu item EDIT run the option check for errors
