Palm Tx problem after hotsync

After hotsync palm keeps powering back and forth. tried soft and hard reset - no luck. battery was charged before the hotsync and my palm was working fine until I tried to sync to update date book. Has Vista killed my palm?

  • sbunny Oct 28, 2008

Hey,Thanks for your help. i finally got my palm reset (following palm instructions). I have all my original info saved. I have had some probs with vista and my pc ... especially email (i couldn't delete email or transfer it and had to use Plumchoice to fix that) the other prob has been with my palm hotsyncing and with any address with "https:". So, I think it's a mac next time. But, thanks for replying. I use the datebook for palm and not outlook. That's prob where the confusion is in vista with outlook and palm???

I had the same issue, the palm is stuck in a loop,
I got mine out of this by pressing the power button while the palm was on the screen where the bar goes across the bottom, it asked me if I wanted to erase all data, I said yes, and it reboot normally, I went thru the setup, and all is o.k.
I did have to try this several times, but it eventually worked. Hope this helps, although it looks like this is an older question. I hope you have resolved it.

Palm tx keeps powering on and off . it was out of battery charge and when i charge, this is what it was doing.

It sounds like the power supply is intermittent. If the battery is completely drained it may try to boot and reboot. I suggest just leaving it charged for a bit and if it still does it then perform a semi-hard reset by pushing the button on back of the device and the follow the on screen instructions.

I bought a used Palm TX Handheld can't clear previous owners password.....Can it be reset to change the password?

Yes it can. Hold the power button down and use the stylus to push in the reset button on the back of the TX. Keep holding the power button down till you see the screen powering up. Then let the power button go, you should see a menu asking if you want to reset the unit. select yes (qui). then it will clear all the data and password off.
Then download the latest Palm Desktop Manager and the Hotsync from this site:

When trying to sync, error message reads (sys 0505)(0,841).What can I do? For Palm TX handheld

Hi,
Try to perform a System Reset (see article linked below). If it works to break the loop, you should then be able to delete the offending "My Palm" software and perform a Hotsync to backup your data to your desktop.

If that doesn't break the loop, you'll have to perform another Hard Reset. Sometimes, a Hard Reset takes a couple of tries to get it right, since it's easier to do it wrong than to do it right.

This article discusses the various types of Reset for different Palm devices:

http://tinyurl.com/zlwza

Until you break the TX out of its loop, you won't be able to get the data from it.

To see the Palm OS version running on your TX, enter the Menu, select Info, then Version.

To Get Out Of A Loop:
  1. Perform a SYSTEM RESET by doing the following:
a) Press the UP Button
b) And THEN press and release the RESET Button
c) When you see the second Logo (Palm Powered) release the UP Button
d) Now check if your SYSTEM RESET worked by going to Beam Receive. If it goes back to Off even after you put it to On it means you were successful

2. Now Perform A SOFT RESET by pressing and releasing the button in the back once

  1. After a soft reset, a logo screen appears, followed shortly by a Preferences screen asking you to set time and date.

  1. If a soft reset does not break it out of the loop, you may need to try one of the other resets below.

  1. Do an INCOMPLETE HARD RESET by holding down the power (on/off) button on your device.

  1. While holding down the power button, Press and release the reset button on the back of your handheld device

  1. Keep the power button pressed and release it when the “Palm Powered” logo appears.

  1. A message will now appear warning that you are about to “Erase All Data”. And this will happen if you press UP or DOWN.

  1. Instead you press left or right to begin a soft reset, leaving your data intact.

  1. Your device will then take you through a series of screens to calibrate the digitizer and verify the time and date.
Sorry this was so long, I tried to put everything down that might help you.

Replace the Battery. This has either a faulty Or Discharging Battery.
Even brand new items can have a faulty battery, or charging system
i,d suggest returning for replacement or refund, if it,s new/warranted.

Palm T/X keeps on resetting. I did the hard reset but still the same problem exist. Help please.

You will have to rename the backup folder to backup.old in C:program files/palm/ user name folder, then perform a Hard reset on the device and perform  a HotSync to resolve the issue.

Crash after Hotsync

There were some problems with the hotsync working with Vista. I don't know if they fixed them yet. Best bet is to look on Palm.com and see if the current hotsync program supports Vista.

If it isn't listed, it may not support it.

Palm keeps retting.

I followed the instructions posted by bab2000 in brighthand.com. I pressed the UP scroll button and then press and release the reset button. It took awhile and several tries but it worked. I then hotsynced and voila I am enjoying my palm TX again.
Thanks.

Palm TX Handheld - Delete all records

Hi, the best option would be a hard reset. Before doing so, i would suggest doing one lase hotsync.

at the back of your pda, there is a reset button. press this. be prepared. as it is resetting, press and hold the power button as well as the up button. hold these for like 3 seconds then release. it will then ask you whether you wanted to reset it. press the up button once again and release. it will then reset the pda.

if these instructions are still difficult there are some at palm.com. best of luck.

Possible to restore data after a Hard Reset?

look here for your files
C:\Program Files\palmOne\[username]\Backup
and
C:\Program Files\palmOne\[username]\address

Now that you've made this mistake once, you probably want to get a backup program. I use the built in backup in Resco Explorer. They also make a stand alone application.

For your SD card backup might look at Bluesync.
For a free option you can use the PFB (palm file browser), but I would still manually backup the card with a cardreader attached to the pc on occasion.

USB device not recognized or has malfunctioned on hotsync

Last week, windoze started barking the same complaint at me. A hard reset (of my Tungsten E) solved the problem. Caution: A hard reset (keep the power button pressed while performing a normal reset. Only release power button, when Palm logo screen appears. The press up-key) delete ALL data (even the identity, i.e. hotsync ID) from your palm - so be sure to have a recent backup!
