Question about Cameras

Panasonic Lumix FX-01 lens bent to the side

My Panasonic camera turned on by accident (because it's too easy to hit the On switch), and somehow I the lens extended and bent to the side - very tightly. Panasonic wants too much to repair it and I wanted to see if you have any ideas to DIY fix it.

Or would the optics be too messed up?
Thanks!

Not currently. It's at Panasonic and they're going to ship it back.

The lens is pushed to the side at an angle. Thanks for asking!

My camera lens isn't working, how can I reset it?

it sounds like there is dirt, dust or something else in the lens mechanism. I'm assuming you don't want to take the camera to a repair shop. I've had several cameras and this issue comes up periodically.

You can try:

1. using compressed air (with as thin a nozzle as you can find) to blow out the dust,
2. try powering on the camera and zooming the lens at the same time, 3. gently knocking the camera on a hard surface to loosen the lens mechanism,
4. manually forcing the lens to go back in. This can potentially damage the camera, but it's not working now, so you don't have a lot to lose.
5. Googling the camera model to see if you can find instructions on opening the camera up to clean the lens mechanism.

Lense stuck out and can't take pictures

In all probabilities, the lens barrel must have tilted, preventing the lens from retracting into the barrel. It could also be possible that some dust particles got stuck in between the segments of the lens barrel. Check for these. Try to straighten the barrel without using much force, and try to remove any dust particle that got stuck between the segments.

If the lens is jammed in the out position you can try holding the camera firmly and tapping/hitting it against your hand with the camera on. The lens should then retract. If this doesn't work or if you are afraid of dropping it (do it on your bed, that way it doesn't hit the floor if you _do_ drop it), you can drop it on a wood/firm surface from an inch or so up and it should retract the lens. This solution ONLY WORKS IF THE LENS IS JAMMED.
