Hi there, i recenetly received a dell computer (dont know model name) and when starting it up, it has 'Keyboard Failure'. It doesn't have an actual slot where i can plug in a keyboard but i used an adapter to change it to USB. I even used a wireless keyboard and mouse from dell themselves plugged it in the USB and still the same 'Keyboard Failure'.
Its a Dell, the serial number is B1GL82J and model number is DC8M.
I have tryed time and time again in different USB slots and still it doesn't work. I belive its something internally now.

-   My sister called with the same problem so i rushed in with a PS2 keyboard only to find there is no PS2 port. so i thought the USB ports may be failing and being the brainiac that i am, i thought it has a PCI slot i can buy a USB card and presto. Problem is it isn't recognized by the box and i cant get into the BIOS to troubleshoot. WTF was Dell thinking when they designed this box? Resetting teh CMOS didn't help either. Sigh...-   Eazy_c
You may try connecting a different usb keyboard to your system. Mostly, some keyboard converted from serial connection to a usb could cause this kind of problem. In some cases also, wireless keyboard and mouse won't work when u turned on your system if the driver is not properly install.
You may also try disconnecting any other usb devices from your computer. Disconnect also your power supply then push and hold the power button for 5 seconds. Plug back in the power cord then connect your keyboard. Turn on your computer. if it doesn't work, i suggest to call your computer manufacturer and check your warranty. This could be an issue with the motherboard of your computer.
I believe your problem lies with the Keyboard Chip on the Motherboard, possibly needs replacing or re-soldering. A PC repair facility should be able to check this out.
I tired a known working KB and also removed all USB devices and retried. I also tried a new power supply as it was suggested on other forums that it could potentially be an under performing PS. I disconnected all devices from the PS ie, HDD and Optical drives. i think it is the Motherboard at this point. Dell will not help as it is out of warranty.
Thanks for your consideration of my issue. i appreciate the effort.
