My Double Oven Model JJW9630AAB had the same problem. I replaced C33 capacitor as recommended by dave1812 in Solution #2 and it now works perfectly and saved me 150 bucks. Thanks Dave. Electrolytic capacitors fail quite often due to excessive heat which dries out the electrolyte contained within them.

    I replaced the C3 capacitor with a 68uF 35volt.
It was brighter, but the cap over heated.
    Any ideas why?

Dim display, where can we get a C33 capacitor and are there many different kinds of C33 capacitors??

  • gene1222 May 11, 2010

My previous post stated capacitor C33 by mistake. It is capacitor C3 (68uF @ 35V) that needs to be replaced as discovered by dave1812.

Thanks to all on this thread, I saved $248. I watched a YouTube video on de-soldering and then soldering. Next I picked up a 47 MF capacitor from Radio Shack. Then I removed the defective capacitor and put in the new one and cut off the excess wire, soldered it and it worked. It was my first attempt at soldering so might as well try it -- it's better than wasting $250 on a new circuit board. Good luck.

The display sits on a circuit board. Pull the board out and replace capacitor C3. It is 68 micro farads. I used a 47 from Radio Shack and it works great. If you can find a 68, that would be ok too, of course!

My Jenn-air double oven had the same dimming issue. Thanks to the folks on this site, I got the nerve to try and fix the C3 capacitor.

I first watched a YouTube on de-soldering and then went to Radio Shack for a 47uF capacitor. I took the defective one off the circuit board with a de-soldering tool and replaced it with the lower rated capacitor and soldered it on and it worked.

I was a little nervous about doing it (I haven't soldered much) thinking I had a 50/50 chance of success but I hated the thought of paying $250 for a new circuit board. So I would encourage others to at least try before ordering the part, what do you have to lose?

Jenn-Air oven display blank. Only works when oven has heated up.

I had the same problem and just fixed it myself today. Not sure if your timer board is the same but I replaced capacitor C3 35volt 68uf. I also have the dark spot on the clock glass in the corner but it still works. I purchased the cap from digikey.com P10292-ND. I also replaced the cap next to it 35volt 470uf P10301-ND not sure if that was necessary but it smelled a little burnt. The display is normal brighness again - total cost 1/2 hour of my time and $4 parts and shipping. Digi-Key is great I ordered the parts on Thursday 7/23 and got it today 7/25.

My clock and temperature display is dim

Hi, this will happen over a period of time and its just heat related. the control panel isn't insulated properly and , there has been a larger than normal transfer of heat to the inside of the control panel where the circuits are housed.

If this is a problem, i recommend replacing the control board. it will fix the dim issue.

Display on my Jenn-Air electric wall oven is very dim

douglas9101,
I had the same problem and found the solution on-line.
Replace the C3 capacitor on the dispaly module. (100 UF, 35 volt, high temperature)
The local Jenn Air dealer wanted $211 for a new display module.
I purchased a Cap from a local electronics supply store for 79cents.
The only problem is that you need to have a soldering pencil/iron, a solder ******/wick and a small amount of solder.

Steps I had to take on my oven:
- Flip the AC breaker supplying the oven to off to be save
- remove 3 screws on top and 4 on the bottom of the display panel
- gently pull out the display panel and unplug the 2 cables to the display
- unclip the ribbon cable to the display module
- unclip the module itself by pushing on the 2 black tabs
- locate C3
- unsolder C3 and replace with new Cap- keeping the polarity strip the same as theh old Cap
- reasemble in reverse order.

It took me all of 20 minutes. It may sound difficult but is very easy if you have the tools
Good Luck
K

Display panel

Dim display indicates a "failing" electronic oven control. It will continue to get dimmer and dimmer until it fails completely. You need to replace the "clock" (sometimes called the ERC <---Electronic Oven Control)

This is a tricky repair. Be sure you have the power off (at the breaker box) before attempting this.

Oven timer and temperature display dim

You need a new display/relay board package they have come up with to solve this problem. The parts generally run about $250, and if you have it repalced by a service company, the total will be a little less than $500. The display is really easy to change by itself, but you must change the realy board with it, and it has about 40 different wires going to it. If you draw a diagram as you take the wires off, and label them carefully, it isn't that hard to do the whole job..just take your time. This is a problem thermadore/dacor ovens have had for some time. If it isn't too old you may try calling thermadore and see if they are willing to at least buy you the parts, as this is a known problem. Good Luck!
