How to use a bluetooth headset for VOIP on Avaya

Sometimes using a wired headset for voip (voice over internet protocol) can really be a pain. The cords are short, you can't move about very far before disturbing the connection and basically you are "chained" to the desk when using one.

Wireless headsets are an option, providing hands free use but they also have their bad points too! The ear covers are large and can get sweaty after long periods of time. Some headsets are bulky and resemble "ear muffs" which limit your hearing in the space around you. Canceling out background noise is a good thing, but it can also be dangerous. Not to mention they weigh a lot when compared to a regular telephone headset.

Ever wish you could use something like the bluetooth from your cell phone to get the best of both worlds? Well, now you can! Even when your computer does not support bluetooth technology.

As long as your computer has a free usb port, enabling bluetooth technology may be as simple as purchasing an adapter from your local department store.

I/O Gear has a bluetooth adapter that works great for this purpose and I bought one for less than $20.00. You buy the adapter, install the software and plug it in to your usb port. When the computer recognizes the adapter, turn on your bluetooth headset and put it into pairing mode. I have a Plantronics Voyager Pro bluetooth headset and all I had to do was press and hold the power button until the red & blue lights began to blink and the pc picked up the signal just fine!

Once you pair your bluetooth with your pc, answering a call using Ayaya is a snap! The adapter provides 300 to 550 feet of wireless reception which gives me plenty of room to move about while using VOIP services. The bluetooth weighs nothing on my ear compared to the larger wireless headsets and the reception using the I/O Gear adapter is wonderful! I answer calls by tapping the tiny button on the bluetooth and hang up using the same motions.

I would reccomend using this method to anyone who works from home using their computer for voice over internet applications.

Fix the flashing monitor

If your monitor shows the image for just a second and gets dark, but the image is still there and is visible when you look at the screen under strong light, then your monitor has an illumination problem.
To fix this you will need screw drivers PH2 and a flat one, soldering iron, multimeter and an electronic parts supply shop at a short distance. Also, basic knowledge about electricity and ability to unsolder and solder things are needed. Old working light bulb and it's invertor from a scanner also help a lot.
Take precautions against accidents. Get rid of unnecessary objects, keep family members out of reach, wear rubber gloves.
Open the monitor. You have to remove the stand, some screws on the back and to unlatch very tightly latched plastic latches. With covers down, look for blown capacitors on the power supply board and replace them. Usually they are 1000uF/35V/105C, 470uF/25V/105C. If the problem persist, test the light bulbs connecting one at a time and turning on the monitor. Be careful not to touch any live part of the power board. Look if some of them will not flash. Replace if any. You may have to open the LCD to replace a bulb. Be careful not to break the LCD glass panel and keep parts covered against dust. Before assembly look for dust and other objects on the parts of the LCD. Remove with compressed air. Do not touch with hands, blow with mouth or clean with liquids. All these will make the image look awful.
If the inverter includes ceramic capacitor, replace it. Check the transistors of the inverter. Replace if faulty.

Flashing amber light

Hi, on most Dells a flashing amber light on the power button indicates a problem with the PSU or a short on the main power rail, if this is the case you should have 2 flashing lights as well, 1 & 3.

Power light on front of computer is flashing - quick blinks

Most desktops require you to hold the off or power button down for at least 5 seconds, or more, before it will actually turn of the power. If you don't you won't get the desktop to turn off properly and when you try to turn it on again, you will get a message to the effect that the PC was not properly turned off last time, and it will give you the option to turn it on in Safe Mode, Safe with DOS prompt, or Safe with networking or ... finally, normal mode. If all you did was not turn the power off holding the button for a minimum of 5 seconds, then turning it on normaly is okay to do.

Viewsonic Projector PJ557D "Screen Flip"

Check the power settings o nthe laptop, go to control panel, power options. see if its set to turn off the screen if theres no activity. I doubt this is your problem but worth a try. Going back to the viewsonic picture means its not getting a signal. So either the cable may be faulty which is less likely, or it is a software problem. Does the screen flicker on the laptop when doing the same thing (if the projector is not connected)?
