Re: philips mp3 player
If you have tried the reset, then it could be one of the following: 1. faulty charger - Need to replace it 2. Faulty/failing battery - Need to replace it 3. Faulty contacts / cable - Need to replace the cable or service the unit for faulty contacts.
If you are able to switch on the unit, try the following: Please follow the steps below to recover and upgrade your player with the latest firmware:
Make sure that your computer is online and connecting to the Internet.
Launch the Firmware Manager at Start->Programs->Philips Firmware Manager on your PC.
Connect your GoGear to the computer while pressing & holding the (>||) key until the Firmware Manager recognize the GoGear and a dialogue boxpop up in recover mode.** If you failed going to recovery mode, “pleaseconnect the device in recovery mode” is displayed please repeat step 1to step 3.
Click Start to confirm and start recovering the unit to its factory setting. IMPORTANT: All music & content of your GoGear Player will be erased once the factory setting is restored.
Follow all screen instructions and click Finish at the end to complete the recovery.
The Firmware manager will close automatically once the success message is displayed.
You can now remove your player and start using it again.

I have problems with the Philips SA018 4gb MP3 player. While it is connected to the computer the it shows green once it is disconnected it goes red and nothing works. The battery should be fully charged as it shows green, but as I have said once it is disconnect it turns red and that's it...there is no joy.I wonder is there a problem with the battery...? Has anyone else had this kind of issue?
First try to remember if the water touched your mp3 player lately . If you suspect water damage , then try this solution here . If you don't suspect water damage then try to replace the battery . If that didn't help , then try to update the software of your mp3 player . If that also didn't help , then It must be hardware failure . For hardware failure you need to take your player to the service .
Have you reset the player? Reset the player by holding the off-switch and the
volume-+ (plus) switch. If this doesn't help try this: Connect your player to the pc that has the Philips device manager
running, then reset the player by holding the off-switch and the
volume-+ (plus) switch. As soon as the player shuts off, press and
hold the volume- - (minus) switch. The Philips device manager will
recognize the player now, and recommend a repair, let it do so.
Especially if you have Windows Vista, you will need to go to Philips website and download the updated version of the Philips Device Manager - www.usasupport.philips.com - enter your model # - click on the link for your model # - go to "Software & Drivers" - and download "Firmware Update Software"
That player will not recognize files from about 90% of the music services out there, because they use a DRM-encryptino system that the player doesn ot recognize. Before attaempting a Repair in the Philips Device Manager, try synching one single song that is definitely in mp3 format using Windows Media Player. If that fails, THEN try the Repair.
Press the reset button mine on it was on the bottom of the mp3 player Ive just this moment stuck a tooth pick into the reset hole and heard a click and it has just started working I was looking at this post for the solution myself and have just found it.hope this helps.
