Common faults on Norstar??

Gidday,

I'm just wondering if someone could suggest test procedures (Other than
Feature 805) or advise of common faults so I know what to look for.

I operate a telecommunications repair centre in Australia. I will shortly be
testing/repairing Norstar CICS/MICS systems as well as
M7324/M7310/M7208/M7100 Phones.
I have installed a few of these but have never been back for a fault repair.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mick

I rarely have a problem out of a Norstar set. When I do, it is either (in
order of frequency of occurrence) a beverage accident, physical damage,
or lightning.

With beverage incidents, I usually open the set, clean the rubber pads
(under a faucet), any sugar making the buttons sticky, and the plastic
sheet with the electrical contacts, & put it back together.

Physical damage just warrants replacement of the damaged piece, like the
display glass, handset or whatever.

Lightning usually occurs only when I have a set in an outbuilding
somewhere. I can usually tell because if you tilt the display just right,
you can see the LCD faintly scrolling horizontal lines down the display.
It makes me think of a waterfall, for lack of a better description. I
don't know which board would get replaced for that though, I've never
fixed them. Just installed new sets.

Mick (if that is your real name 8-{) )

In my almost ten years of work in tech support for these puppies, I would
suggest the most common T/S technique for bizarre problems was to un-plug
and plug back in the power.

Beyond that these things run like swiss clockworks. Most problems occurred
from feature interaction, (CFWD with DND and CFNA, etc. etc.) and could be
corrected through programming.

About five years into the life of the system, I rode with a repair (only)
guy in a telco. We were both going to a site to watch a new piece of
equipment be installed. He said he'd rally like to get to know more about
the Norstar, but he never had to respond to a repair call on one. I'm sure
that has since changed, just 'cause there's so many out there now.

Cheers!

Dan
