How do I set up my wireless N router with a secure password?

    Link http://192.168.1.1 did not connect. I want to set up my pass word on my Belkin Wireless N router.

to access the router page for linksys, you need to type 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. username is " admin " password is " password " if it doesnt work, try "admin" for username and "admin" for password. then it would take you to the router page. and you can start configuring.

Setting the router's administrator password

All Belkin Router's ship without an admin password. If you require an admin password then follow the below instructions.

Setup steps:

  1. Connect the computer to one of the four LAN ports on the router.
  2. Open a web browser on the computer.
  3. In the address bar of the web browser, type http://192.168.2.1
  4. Click Login in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click Submit.

  5. Click on System Settings under Utilities on the left-hand side of the opened page.

  6. You will see a feature called, "Administrator Password". Type in your current password (default leave blank).

  7. Click "Apply Changes". Your new password is now active.

Note: Do not forget the new password and keep it somewhere safe. If you forget your password, you'll be unable to access your router's settings. If you forget or lose your password, you'll need to "Perform a hardware reset on the router". This will reset the password to its default, as well as erase any and all other settings you may have changed

Enable WEP in Belkin Wireless Router


To select WEP for your Belkin wireless network ,click on security mode drop menu and select WEP. WEP is of two kinds WEP 64 bit encryption and WEP 128 bit wireless encryption. You can type your PassPhrase and generate instant wireless key for your Belkin wireless network.

After generating the wireless key, you should save settings by click on Apply changes. Now onwards to login to your Belkin wireless network, you need this wireless key.

Enable WPA in Belkin Wireless Router

WPA is more secure than WEP. To enable WPA on your Belkin router, select WPA from security mode drop down menu.

Securing router from outside user.


Set wireless security to one of the options available. Also, set the router system ID, and change router login password, (record it somewhere, like on the actual router) change the wireless channel to 11 to avoid conflict with landline wireless handsets.
There are higher security settings, but wireless access password is pretty effective.

Router password


>If you're trying to put password for the Router, then type "http://192.168.0.1" into the address bar, then hit "Enter."
>Use "Admin" as the username and leave the password blank when the login screen appears.
>Please click on Administrator settings and change the User Name and Password.

If you're trying to put a password/secure the Wireless network, then follow the steps:

>In the Router setup page, click on Wireless Settings.
>Under Wireless Security Mode, select Security Mode: WEP/WPA/WPA2.
>Enter the Security Key manually or enter the Phrase to generate the Security key automatically (only in WPA/WPA2) and save the settings.
>Please note the Security Key to connect to the Wireless Networ.
>The Wireless is secured now.

Set up a non wep password


Hi Friend,

Please follow the steps;

1.Open the router page(192.168.1.1)
2.Enter the username and password(default password is admin and leave the username blank)
3.Click Wireless and then fill the sections as mentioned:
Wireless-Enabled
Wireless Netowrk Name-As per your choice
Wireless Channel-6-2.442GHz
Wireless SSID broadcast-Enabled and click Save settings

4.Click Wireless Security and fill the sections
Wireless Security-Enabled
Security Mode-WPA pres-shared key (as you want non wep password)
WPA Algorithm-TKIP
WPA Shared key-Minimum 8 and maximum 64 digit password
Group Key Renewal-3600 and click save settings

Turn off the router for 30 seconds and turn it on after that. Now you have a non wep secured network

Looking to set up security for belkin 54g wirelrss router


There is two type of security in this.
1. Administrator password
2. Wireless security

For setting up wireless security:
Open the router interface page using http://192.168.2.1
On the left hand side column, under WIRELESS, click on "Security"
On the login page, leave the password bank, click submit
Under security mode, select 64-bit WEP
Under key1: type your 10-digit telephone number and 2 numbers in each small box
Make sure, key1 is selected, click Apply Changes
Wireless security has been setup!!!
**Never open router page on a wireless computer

For Admin security:
On the same router interface,
On the left hand side column, under UTILITIES, click on "System Settings"
Here you can set your password (Current password should be left blank)
Now click on Apply changes
**If you forget this Administrator password, you may have to reset the router which will result in loss of configuration settings

Need to change password from previously changed password


To secure the wireless network or to change any settings on the router you will need to access the router set up interface.
Open the set up interface of the router . Make sure that your computer will be connected to the router with the Ethernet cable.

Once you open the set up page of the router , you will find the place to change the wireless settings of the router. In case of Linksys wireless router , you will see the Wireless Tab at the top.

SSID : It is the name of the wireless network. This name will be shown on your wireless computer or the wireless device so that you can identify your own wireless network. All the routers come with their factory default settings. For example , the Linksys router will come with the Linksys network name.
It will be better to change the wireless network name.


Wireless Security

Change the security mode to WEP. This security type is supported by all the operating system. When change the security mode to WEP, you will find the Network key box to type the network key. Do not type anything in the Passphrase box. Type your network key in the Key 1 Box. If you set the encryption to 65 bits, your network key will be 10 digit hexadecimal number. that means you can use the combination of 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and letters a,b,c,d,e,f only. remember it should be exactly 10.
If you set the Encryption to 128 bit, your network key will be the combination of 26 digits. You will need to remember the network key.

WPA

This is one of the most secured type of encryption.
Open the set up interface of the router. Change the wireless security mode to WPA personal. You will find the passphrase box. in this box you can type any password for your wireless network. The password should be the combination of number and letters and it should be 8 or more than 8 characters.
This security type is supported by WINDOWS XP SP2 and above Operating system.

WPA2
This is one of the highly secured type of encryption.
Open the set up interface of the router. Change the wireless security mode to WPA personal. You will find the passphrase box.In this box you can type any password for your wireless network. The password should be the combination of number and letters and it should be 8 or more than 8 characters. Keep the Algorithm to TKIP.
This security type is supported by WINDOWS VISTA and above.

Once you change the wireless settings on the router , try to connect to the new wireless network

It is recommend to secure your Wireless network.

You can secure your Wireless network from the Router.

1. Connect the Router and the Computer using the Ethernet cable.

2. Open the Web Browser like Internet Explorer and go to the URL: http://192.168.1.1

This will take you to a popup box which asks you to enter a Username and Password. The username is either blank or "admin" and the default password is "admin".

4. Set the Wireless security from the Wireless -> Wireless Security option.

5. Save the settings.

6. Restart the Router.

Done.

Password settings


hullo
open up you Linksys user inaterface click on the wireless tab then security then go to the field called WPA SHARED KEY
then type your password to secure you wireless connection. Dont forget to save the settings.

Security of wireless network


You can directly connect your computer to the router thorugh the routers "internet" port and then re-run setup. OR you can type the IP address of the router into your address bar (the default is tipically 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) and then enter the router username and password (I believe the Belkin default is username:"Admin" password:"Password") in the admin control planel look for a "wireless security" tab. You can then define your wirelss security settings there. Just remember to configre the same settings on all devices that will connect to the router.
