Starts fine and runs but why do rpms go up and down with some loss of power?

Could be the valve in the carby. Had a similar problem with my Victa. Have a look on the internet for briggs and Stratton engine carby service. It was really helpful. Your carby may be different but the info I found was very helpful and explains how the power valve operates and what to do to prevent surges and power loss.

Our victa lawn mower is a 2 stroke and someone has put unleaded petrol in it, now it doesn't run, how can I fix it?

Try flushing the diesel out of the system with 2stroke fuel, replace the spark plug and try restarting!

My accelerator cable on my Victa V40 appears to be looser now so when I pull the cord off choke the revs no longer increase, how do I fix it?

hi.. the thottle cable has round end has poped out of its cam housing(gray plastic) inside the plastic carby... the only way to fix that is to remove the carby, but before you do clean your mower as you will create more issues if dirt/grass gets into the parts you will be working on...also take pictures before you start taking thing off, so you know how to reassemble it, as the carby will need to be taken apart....good luck

Draper petrol lawnmower wont start

Check the fuel...most often stale fuel creates havoc...YOU MUST FLUSH THE TANK donot add to old crumby gas, YOU MUST clean out the carb(remove the fuel bowl and carb spray all the tiny openings, orifices, check the air filter, check the oil, Add NEW fresh fuel, and hit with a quick spray of starting fluid just prior to restarting...should run out well.

I have a cub cadet that wont stay running.

Is the gas more than 5 months old? If so drain the old gas and replace with fresh gas.
If that does not fix it try replacing the fuel filter.
If that doesnt fix it try cleaning and re-gapping the spark plug or replace the spark plug. If none of these easy fixes do it then it could be a dirty carb.

Brand new Pope Spitfire 40 lawnmower won't start

Caren,
Drain the fuel completely if it is older than 1 week. Make sure you undo the bolt at the bottom of the fuel bowl to ensure all old fuel is drained. Refill with fresh fuel (premium unleaded) and try again. If it still does not work then remove the spark plug and rest it on the metal of the mower while still attached to the silicone ignition wire. Have someone hold the cut out bar to the handle (as you normally would to run the motor) and pull the cord. You should see sparks being emitted from the spark plug. (Make sure there is no fuel nearby) If you cannot see any sparks then replace the spark plug with a new one and repeat this process. If you still cannot see any sparks being emitted after attatching the new plug to the silicone wire, resting it on the metal of the mower, and pulling the cord to start it as you normally would, the mower will need to have the resistor and capacitor checked by a professional repairer as no spark is being generated.

Good luck.

Victa 2 stroke mower will not start

It may have a blown crankcase seal. How did you check the plug for spark?
you can remove the carbi and spray 2 stroke fuel directly into the chamber and try to start it.
If it starts you have a problem with the carbi or the fuel supply.
Take out the air filter as it may be blocked and restricting the air supply.
The float in the carbi may be full of fuel due to a hole in it or the fine fuel filter in the carbi may be blocked
