What you need to do is master reset on the cellphone.
You can do it while the cellphone is off.
Press and hold the center bottom for about 5 seconds and inmediately press and hold as well the pòwer bottom both together until you see Master Reset yes or no.

How to bypass or reset keypad unlock code on a motorola q cellular phone

There is only one option to unlock Motorola Moto Q if you forgot the password, you must do hard reset your motorola. But this method will erase all your data in your phone after your motorola unlocked. If you sure doing this just follow a few step below:
1. Power off the Motorola Q
2. Power on the Motorola Q while pressing and holding center button and power button.
3. Keep holding until you get a "Master Reset?" screen.
4. Click the left softkey for "Yes" and the phone will wipe and reload the OS from ROM

My phone buttons are not working

Hard Reset:
Either through the menus or:

1. Turn the Moto Q off

2. Hold down the power button (hang up button) and the center key button (the button between the arrows) at the same time.

3. When the verizon logo appears on the device. Let go of both buttons.

4. A screen will come up saying to do a Master Reset. You will hit the left soft key to say yes to confirm.

Your Moto Q is now been hard reset ( Master Reset ) without having to go through the menu of the device.
------------
There's currently no other way to reset your phone without using the buttons so.
If you are having problems with your Q already (since they were just released a few weeks ago), don't be afraid to exchange it for a new one.

The Motorola Q tech support line that I called was 1-800-657-7576.

Moto Q: my phone died and has been dead for over two weeks...

okay.. from the sounds of it the phone has so many of these "alarms" that it is getting into a loop.
what you need to do is
1. turn the phone on.
2. et it sit for a good while hours maybe
3. when you get back to it try and close the alerts

i think its just freezing because its processor is being pushed. let it calculate. then see what happens.

the alternative is a "hard reset"
heres how to do it
1. Turn the Moto Q off

2. Hold down the power button (hang up button) and the center key button (the button between the arrows) at the same time.

3. When the telstra or motorola (or whatever) logo appears on the device. Let go of both buttons.

4. A screen will come up saying to do a Master Reset. You will hit the left soft key to say yes to confirm.

Your Moto Q is now been hard reset ( Master Reset ) without having to go through the menu of the device.

My home screen is white with an hour glass and I can't use start.

It sounds like your Q is still trying to find something on the card. The appman is the applications manager. Can you try putting the same card back in?

If not you may have to do a reset. A hard reset will however clean out everything errors and all and your phone will be just as you got it out of the box on day 1. It should fix all of your problems but it is like using a hammer to open eggs.

Here is the key sequence for doing a hard reset on the Moto Q without having to go through the menu on the Q to do a Master Reset

1. Turn the Moto Q off

2. Hold down the power button (hang up button) and the center key button (the button between the arrows) at the same time.

3. When the logo appears on the device. Let go of both buttons.

4. A screen will come up saying to do a Master Reset. You will hit the left soft key to say yes to confirm.

Your Moto Q is now been hard reset ( Master Reset ) without having to go through the menu of the device.

Motorola Q power button

This is a difficult question to answer. First, make sure you did not accidentally drop any liquids on your keypad. Second, try removing the battery and replacing it. Thirds, try a Master Reset (Start, System Tools, Master Reset) BUT REMEMBER THAT A MASTER RESET WILL CAUSE YOU TO LOSE ALL PERSONAL DATA. After that I am afraid you may have to turn your phone in on an insurance claim. Good luck.

boot_c_03.08.00r_mpap Paul Sager from FixYa has posted a solution for this problem previousley (as below). I have tried the Motorola and Verizon sites (tried the store as well) and the software is not available to flash the phone. Do you know of a site that would still have it available? Or can this question be sent to Paul to further comment on it? All I want to do is recover the phone numbers, notes and calandar from the phone via Activesync or Windows. Paul Sager 2335 Solutions July 14, 2010 I can help you with your Motorola Moto Q. What has happened is that the firmware of your phone has become corrupted. When this happens your phone will no longer finish its boot sequence. This is a very common situation with many phones: in fact, much of what I do here at Fixya is explain how people can fix their MP3 players, GPS and phones by reflashing the firmware. The good news is that if you take your phone into your carrier's store, they can reflash it for you right there (if they have a competent tech handy.) If you are comfortable with computers etc, you can also do it yourself. Your computer will communicate with and fix your phone, even though it doesn't seem to recognize it right now - I've seen this many many times. My only warning for you is that if you are going to flash your phone yourself, you need to get the correct firmware from motorola's site for your carrier. I just downloaded the Verizon firmware as an example - Motorola's website has about ten different carrier firmwares for their MotoQ phone. I hope that helps.
