Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Exhaust fan does not run

We just purchased a manufactured home that has the GE Spacemaker over the range microwave (JVM1630WB 002) and the exhaust fan does not run. It appear that everything else is working OK. Is this likely to be the PC board or the fan motor? Is it worth the cost of repairing it or should I just go ahead and replace it?

I do not know what size the exhaust is. It is vented throught he side wall and the vent looks to be about 12" wide.

The lights do work on the unit and when you press the touch pad for the fan you hear nothing.

    Does this information help?

GE Spacemaker XL1800 vent fan doesn't pull air from beneath

On the exhaust system (top of unit) there is a small metal 'damper' that is most likely stuck shut. If that is all clear then you have a problem in the duct work of the home.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one year guarantee.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, and/or inside light operation, too.

Details of our service are at our Web site, along with a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Humming ge sapcesaver microwave

During operation, most of the built-in models have a panel that tilts out while the exhaust fan is on. When cooking is done, the exhaust fan shuts off and the panel retracts to its normal position. With the fan & microwave motor off, the hum is easier to hear. Look closely at the top panel the next time you hear the hum, and you'll probably see that it's retracting.

GE Microwave Surface Lights

The control circuits for the cooktop lights and the hood fan are spearate. The problem is indeed with the control unit. It's usually caused by either the filaments shorting when the lamp blows or by removing or installing the bulbs while the oven is still plugged into the power line. We regularly repair these nationwide for $32.50.
