Picture in 3d without the 3d glasses

1)when picture isnt on but television is, it has 3 color lines on dark screen: blue, green & red that curve at top of screen going horizontal in a curve. 2) when picture is on, it is not focused but is viewed like when you are looking at a 3D movie but without the glasses on. Please help, thanks for your assitance. Same exact problem as charliensd. When I turn the TV on, before the picture comes on, three curved lines appear at the top of the screen, then when the picture turns on, it looks like a 3D movie without the 3D glasses. What is going on?

Hi,
Yes it is convergence problem.. IC804 controls red convergence. But in time IC805 will also fail as well. Replace them both with STK392-110. Also, check for cold solder joints in the vicinity of these ICs. You need to replace following ICs, may be 2 pieces in your tv for convergence problem. IC, STK392-110T
OR
First, take a look at the following web site information. Unfortunately, some RCA sets have manual convergence boards - which means you can do nothing but replace it and adjust the manual controls on the board itself. But some of the newer ones (Maybe yours) can be accessed through the service mode. So, give it a try. I have also copied the part of the web site that gives the entry code to get into the service mode:
http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/how2adj.html#5.4
5.4 GE / RCA / PROSCAN
Read the _ SERVICE MODE WARNING _ before proceeding.

To enter service mode, push and hold the [Menu] button on the set. While holding, push and release the [Power] button, then the [Vol +] button.

You will now have some information on the screen: "P0 V0"

To actually be able to change these values, you must push [Vol +] on the remote so the information reads V76. Then pushing on the Channel +/- will change the "P" value.

P1 - 3 are error codes. If there is a problem with the set that can be self-diagnosed, the "V" will report the code. These codes are available in the RCA repair manual.

P4 - 7 control the horizontal size, shift, vertical size and shift.

You may also find a summary leaflet for the service tech clipped somewhere inside the chassis. The procedures for getting into the service mode, as well as the service items of interest will be there.

If you're attempting to adjust color or geometry errors, you'll need the Video Essentials DVD, Laser Disc or some other source of test material.

Have any other queries, Please let me know..
Thank you.....

HI Since , you need technical person to examine TV and rectify what board is required.   high tech item and fault diagnosis also required special tools and jigs. I would recommend to call for proper repair.

You can also try a hard reset: Unplug TV from AC mains and remove all cables from TV. Wait about 30 minutes and replug to AC power and redo the cabling. Switch on the TV and see if it works..

If it fails then switch the tv for 1 hour and follow these steps..

Press OK to begin auto convergence.
2. When the auto convergence is complete, the Red center convergence menu
appears. The cross in the middle of the screen should be yellow. If it is not,
use the arrow buttons to move the red cross to overlap the green cross.
Press OK when adjustments are complete.
3. The Blue center convergence menu appears with a cyan cross in the middle
of the screen. If it is not, use the arrow buttons to move the blue cross
to overlap the green cross. Press OK (the TV tunes to the last selected/
available channel in the channel list).

If the lines are just in one area (with a picture back up)--say the top of the picture--then the problem is the convergence amp IC's. Repair would be around $300 but if this is one of the those tv's bad crt's

Picture is bowed inward and looks like a 3d image without the glasses. I also have a green, red, and blue line curving across the top of the picture.

Looks like the focusing lens may have moved a bit or the projector lamp has gone weak. Get a technician to check up the projector.

There's very little you can do here.

My rca projection tv has blue and green images like a 3D picture would without your 3D glasses, a double vision image and no other colors

sounds like the sensors are out of focus and your red sensor isnt turning on. look in the back of the tv for a master reset button or in your menu screen some sort of "Flash focus" or "convergence". They will realign the 3 sensors.

The picture looks 3D

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

it sounds like your convergence is off.

you have Red, Greed & Blue projection guns
through your menu's you will find adjustments for them ...

set your green first then align then red and then blue to the green..

when making this adjustment the tv should put up a caliration signal called a crosshatch
a matrix of H and V lines to align
