check if you are using the right program to open the file.

if you are opening from within the program, try copying the location of the file (from explorer) and append the filename.

    or double-click from explorer

I have windows 8.1 desktop. Microsoft works is supposed to autosave my documents every 10 mins. How do I get access to the autosave files?

If you are in Microsoft works already then you are already seeing the saved work. It will only save documents every 10 minutes you are working on. If the program crashes, then you will still have the file, the last time it saved it, when you re-open the file. Since all other files have not been altered they are safe and don't need to be saved.

You can also adjust the saving time options, making it shorter or longer for the time a file needs auto-saving.

When I attempt to open a word document, I get a error message

You made a backup? If yes, then:
Start MSWord.
Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Open.
Locate the folder in which you last saved the missing file.
In the Files of type list, click All Files. The backup file usually has the name "Backup of" followed by the name of the missing file.
Click the backup file, and then click Open.

Otherwise it is necessary to try only this way:
DOC Repair Kit is a comprehensive Microsoft Word DOC repair tool with immense potential and an interface that makes the entire procedure a snap. Based on a lightning-fast proprietary core, the program knows how to repair Word DOC files in situations when other tools appear completely helpless.

If this way didn't work, try to find the answer here: http://www.filerepairforum.com/forum/microsoft/microsoft-aa/word/392-how-to-repair-word-after-the-file-is-corrupted-and-cannot-be-opened

Netflix error 405

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=605984&p=3155060

http://www.checkupdown.com/status/E405.html

SYMPTOMS
When you browse the default document, you receive one of the following error messages: HTTP Error
405 Method Not Allowed

The method specified in the Request Line is not allowed for the resource identified by the request. Please ensure that you have the proper MIME type set up for the resource you are requesting.

Please contact the server's administrator if this problem persists.
HTTP 405 - Resource not allowed
Internet Information Services
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You do not specify the file name. For example, you do not specify http://Server/Web/.
  • The Scripting Object Model (SOM) is enabled.
  • A DTC event is called.
CAUSE
This problem occurs only when you use Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 4.0 and Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0. This problem occurs if you send a POST request to a server that is running IIS 4.0 or IIS 5.0, and the POST request contains a URL that ends in a slash mark (/). IIS returns the 405 error message instead of the default document. However, if the method value of the Verb property is GET or HEAD, IIS returns the default document. RESOLUTION

When the SOM is enabled and a DTC event is called

When the SOM is enabled for the page, a <FORM> tag that is similar to the following is inserted in the page. <FORM name=thisForm METHOD=post>
Because no ACTION attribute is specified in the tag, both Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer try to make an HTTP POST request to the URI "web/". According to the HTTP RFC (RFC 2068), this is not a valid Request-URI for a POST operation.

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:
  • Redirect from the default document to a different document. In this case, the SOM-enabled document will no longer be the default document. The new default document will just redirect to the SOM-enabled document. For example, if your SOM-enabled document is named MyDefault.asp, the default document (Default.asp) will contain only the following code. <% Response.Redirect "mydefault.asp" %>
  • Use client-side script to make sure that the file name is included in the URL. If you must use your SOM-enabled document as the default document, use a client-side code block that is similar to the following code block as the first code block within the <HEAD> section of the page. This code block does the following location replacement. Language=JavaScript> var loc = document.location.toString() var loclen = loc.length //The name of the default document var filename = "default.asp" var filelen = filename.length loc = loc.substring(loclen - filelen, loclen) if (loc.toUpperCase() != filename.toUpperCase()) { location.replace(filename) }

When the remote scripting is called

This problem may occur if you use the window.location.href property in an HTML document to determine the path of the current document. If you do this when you initiate a remote scripting call, the remote scripting call fails because the client page does not have a file name.

To determine whether the page can use remote scripting on the client, verify that the value of the window.location.href property does not end in a slash mark. To provide a file name in the client browser, and to prevent the error on the server, use the Response.Redirect method redirect the request from the default page to another page. For more information, see the first resolution method in the "When the SOM is enabled and a DTC event is called" section. STATUS

Hyperlink other document in excel button

The easy way (but labor intensive) is to put the file names in a column (can be any name you want or the pdf file name), right click on a cell, hit insert hyperlink, and in the address field at bottom, put in the file pdf file name. You would have to do this for each of your 100 files.

If you want to automate it, create a column with the directory path name, a 2nd column with the full file names, a 3rd column where you concatenate the two previous columns to create the full path, and then use the hyperlink command to provide the link:

Folder name Filename Concatenated LINK ../excel/ file1.pdf ../excel/file1.pdf file1.pdf ../excel/ file2.pdf ../excel/file2.pdf file2.pdf ../excel/ file3.pdf ../excel/file3.pdf file3.pdf

Here are the formulas behind this:
A B C D Folder name Filename Concatenated LINK ../excel/ file1.pdf =CONCATENATE(A2,B2) =HYPERLINK((C2),B2)
../excel/ file2.pdf =CONCATENATE(A3,B3) =HYPERLINK((C3),B3)
../excel/ file3.pdf =CONCATENATE(A4,B4) =HYPERLINK((C4),B4)
This should work like a charm and the other advantage is that excel won't rename your path locally depending on weather a file is open or not).

  • Scan and save the file. Open that image and go to "File>Save As" and name it (filename).tiff. Go to "Start->Programs->Microsoft Office Tools->Microsoft Office Document Imaging". Go to "File->Open" and open your document. Go to "Tools->Send Text to Word."

  • When process is done Microsoft Word will start and your document will be present and able to be managed as you please.

Generally, you will find an alternative format is also provided for the document, such as Microsoft Word, HTML, or plain text. If you cannot access a document in PDF format and there is no alternative version, please contact the agency or contact the Maine.gov webmaster for assistance.

We've provided solutions for some common PDF issues below.
General Tips: Problem 1: Blank Page in Browser You have selected to download a file and you receive a blank page with a "Done" message at the bottom of the browser. This may be because you do not have enough space in your temporary internet file folder to complete the download.
Solution: Internet Explorer: Tools> Internet Options> Temporary Internet Files> select Delete Files
Netscape: Edit> Preferences> Under Category on the left Advanced> Cache> click Clear Memory Cache
Problem 2: Blank Page "%PDF" You received an error message containing "% PDF" or you have received a blank page while trying to download. This is due to a problem with your web browser not opening .pdf documents correctly.
Solution: Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0: Edit> Preferences> General> Options> Web Browser Options> make sure the Display PDF in Browser box is not checked.
Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 and newer: Edit > Preferences > Internet > make sure the Display PDF in Browser box is not checked.
Problem 3: "Error Locating Object Handler" You receive an error message that says "Error Locating Object Handler" while trying to download a document. This is because there is a dependency with a plug-in for Adobe Acrobat while using Internet Explorer.
Solution: Please go to the following website for detailed instructions: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q262213
Problem 4: Unable to Print You have successfully downloaded the pdf, can view it on your computer screen but are unable to print. This is due to a post script error with your printer.
Solution: In any Acrobat Reader program: File > Print > check the Print As Image box > OK
Problem 5: "Adobe Reader could not open file" You received the error message "Adobe Reader could not open 'filename.pdf'" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been corrupted (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
Solution: Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0: Edit> Preferences> Internet> make sure the Display PDF in Browser box is not checked.

    Cannot Open Excel 2000 File.

I presume you are trying to open the document using the Recently Opened file list in Excel's "File" menu. If so, use the "Open" entry in the "File" menu instead and navigate to the pen drive from there - it may be that the drive letter has changed. Another possibility: use Windows Explorer (which can be accessed by double clicking on My Computer) to copy the file from the pen drive to the desktop and open it from there by double clicking on it. If that still doesn't work (but the copy worked OK) then right click on the file, click on "Properties" and see if the Read Only box is checked. If so, uncheck it.

And yet another possibility: after closing the file, did you pull the pen drive from the PC without telling Windows to eject it first? If you just remove the drive too quickly, without ejecting it first, the file can easily be corrupted.
