Jerky video

By LiZzIe - usenet poster

" "
I have a new HP m7100e with an ATI Radeon Xpress 200 series video card and
am getting very jerky video, both in live TV and with playing back recorded
TV. Is there some setting I can adjust to get a smoother TV experience?

Thanks.

Just make sure you don't install any graphics or tuner drivers using
WinUpdate they are often 6 months behind and cause problems. Always install
graphics and tuner updates from the vendor Websites.

An interesting thing has happened. HP has a method of System Recovery
(separate from Microsoft's System Restore) that can do either a destructive
or non-destructive restore. I did a non-destructive just to see what would
happen and now the jerkiness is gone (but not in the recordings made before.
I will have to suffer through those.) Something I installed or some setting
I was using must have caused the problem. I have been selectively adding
programs and have not found the culprit as yet. Thanks for your help.

Your new system should not act in this manner it sounds like it has either a
bad tuner card or a bad graphics card and efforts to find the cause will
just end up in frustration.
I suggest returning the system

Yes, it is a standard connection, not digital. Yes the 873n was standard
equipment. The video card was a GeForce4-MX420 64MB DDR. Yes, it is jerky in
media player but I don't have a DVD at the moment to check playback. I
watched a few minutes of one yesterday and I believe it was OK.

From what you say I assume you are using a VGA connection between your PC
and your LCD PC monitor.
Was your old 873 system also a preconfigured MCE system and what kind of
graphics card did it have?
If you play back a recorded program with Media Player instead of with MCE do
you get jerky video?
If you play a DVD using MCE do you have any problem?

yes, it is a brand new preconfigured system. No, I haven't changed anything.
My screen resolution is 1280x1024 on a Samsung 192MP LCD monitor ( which
settings and monitor worked perfectly with no jerkiness on my old 873n). And
what do you mean by what kind of connection? Its cable with no set top box
if that is what you mean.

Is your system a preconfigured MCE system as purcshased from HP or have you
changed some of the components such as the video card?
What resolution are you trying to run what kind of display with over what
kind of connection?
