Hi,

Please check your device manager if the CD/DVD rom is not installed. Click on Start the right click on "My computer / Computer" then click on manage. Computer management window will pop up.Look for device manager. On the right side column look for CD/DVD, If the driver is not there you will need to install the driver.

Right click on one of the icon there then click on Scan for harware changes. Then restart your computer. If it doesn't work, we might need to get into the system registry.

keep me posted.

I was just given a Dell Dimension 3000 by my daughter, who said there was no problems with it. It has a CD-Rom drive and a DVD-RW drive. When I power it up and click on MyComputer, neither of these drives...

They probably can't load because they are loading at the same time and XP can't sort it out.
Remove the cable from the CD ROM and re boot but enter the BIOS and make sure it is no loonger there.
The nachine should load the DVD rom.
You can try adding the CD rom now, it may work but being XP it may grab the wrong driver again and hang up.
Download new drivers from Dell.com
Hope this helps.

GMA 4082n device driver not working properly code 39

First go into Setup (usually F1,F2 or del) at start-up. See if your drives show up there. With Windows running, right click My Computer, left click Properties, left click Hardware, left click Device Manager, left click DVD/CD-ROM drives. Also check IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Do the drives show up there? If they do right click on drive and left click Update Driver. If they are not there go back to System Properties and left click on Add Hardware Wizard. This will search for devices. It may ask you to insert Windows CD which of course you can not do because the drives don't work. Try a different drive. When you cleaned out your computer did you delete or uninstall Office? That may be what caused this problem. None of this may work but it is a starting point.
