Question about JVC FS-SD1000 CD Shelf System

Blown Amp AC?

I have a JVC FS-SD1000 which was purchase about 6 years ago. After about a year my subwoofer quit on me and simply would not work. I took the sub to HH Gregg where I originally purchased this system and they diagnosed the sub. After the diagnosis, the tech advised me the sub had a blown amp ac and needed to be repaired which at that time would have cost $150. Any ideas on how to save some money to have an "amp ac" fixed or any do-it-yourself recommendations? Thanks

Same thing. My subwoofer turns on and the light goes from red to green when I turn the system, but nothing comes out of the subwoofer. I guess I have the same problem as yours. Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately, these older systems lose value rapidly and the cost of repairing problems like this can end up being as much as buying another system! Actually, you might be surprised to learn that JVC Service still sells many accessories and components from older systems. You can buy this sub woofer for less than $100, which should easily beat any repair cost you'll face. It may even come with the satellite speakers. The part number is VSDT2000R-SPBOX .

NOTE: JVC Service has a free shipping coupon going on right now, so you'd want to use that: DZYZXFX49GYZZ81

Also remember that there's a standard connection between the head unit and OEM sub woofer, so you're free to use a non-JVC unit. I would try to find one with a comparable power rating. Of course, the only drawback is that it won't blend in with the unit... but then, the sub woofer is usually tucked away out of sight.

One more thing -- before you order anything PLEASE verify with JVC Service that the part I've listed does indeed include the sub woofer. Their website is not very descriptive of the accessories/parts.

Whats a control jack on a sony SS-WG450 plug into if i'm hooking it to a JVC reciever?

That subwoofer is included in the MHC-GX450 system. I have the amp/CD/radio unit. but not the subwoofer. The control cable connects the LED on the Sub to the main unit. When the main unit detects this connection to the LED it switches on its internal subwoofer amp to drive the subwoofer.

Does the JVC receiver use a "control" circuit through its external subwoofer unit to signal that it is connected to the subwoofer? If not, you do not need to use the control jack on the
SS-WG450 to connect to the JVC receiver. Connecting the Sony subwoofer to a subwoofer output on the JVC unit may be enough. Do check the impedance required by your JVC receiver. Sony lists the SS-WG450 as having a Nominal impedance of 6 Ohms. Is this high enough for the JVC unit?

Hello, I am looking for a replacement for a lost remote control (of a shelf audio system JVC FS-SD 1000. Where would I be able to find it? And would it be worth it (at what cost)?

  • Hi, I can help.

  • As to weather or not it is worth it... if you are going to use your system on a regular business I would say yes it is worth it. While universal remotes can be useful, finding one that has every command available that the original remotes is very difficult.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Where can I find a subwoofer replacement.....for the JVC FS 8000 or FS 2000?

Contact JVC directly. They will refer you to their parts rep for your area. If the parts are available, you may find the parts to be rather expensive in relation to buying a new one.

Connect to TV

Check the user manual for the TV to make sure that the TV has the option to allow an external audio system to be connected. If applicable, then check that any necessary mode setting have been done in the TV set to allow an external audio system. Make sure that you are using compatible connectors between the TV and the sound system. Also, the sound system has to be compatible to the TV.

Jvc protect

Protect mode will kick in whenever a fault is detected.

You get the unit not powering up, and sometimes you hear a clicking noise, that is the protection switch that keeps shutting down the unit.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Regards.

How can we turn off the automatic start of Radio or CD setting?

The activating and deactivating of the 24 hour timer is via a toggle button, labeled "TIMER" on towards the right side of the top console. When the TIMER is activated, you will see a small clock symbol on the LCD display. While the unit is on, tap the TIMER button once. The clock symbol will disappear and the timer is now off.

Reactivating the timer is the same process (remember, the button is a toggle). Tap the TIMER button and you'll see the timer settings show up on the display (time on, time off, source, and volume). The little clock symbol appears again.
