You can try reloading your audio drivers. If you have the original cd's that came with the laptop, there is one that has all of the device drivers on it. If not, you can download the driver directly from Dell.

follow this link to be connected to the download for the Inspiron 1501 audio driver. http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/downloads/en/downloads_splash?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~mode=popup&file=235761

save the file to your desktop. close the browser after download and double click on the file to run the install program.

this is a review of some person facing the same problem like yours and how he solved it please read

Hi i have a dell 1501 laptop with Vista Premium. I'm not computer savvy but I'm learning a thing or two. I had the same problem with my lap top reading (no audio device installed). Thanks to your site it helped me to investigate. I'll try to help you. My audio is working well, and I'm happy again. Step one is to go to control panel, and click on device manager. I know you did this already but bear with me for a minute. Look up Sound, video, and game controllers. Next click this (+) to see what kind of audio device you have, then right click it to open properties. Go to driver, and uninstall your device. Make sure you didn't uninstall your speakers, smile. Next step is to go to Programs, and features. Find your audio system and uninstall it with it's wizard. Next step is to close your programs, and restart. Windows Vista will restart your machine. Wait... A system wizard will appear and ask you if you want to install. I was going to cancel the wizard, and put in my drivers, and utilities disk, but before i could my narrator came on, and said hello Tony blah, blah, blat! I almostfell backward with joy. The wizard ran, and installed my original device completely, and my little circle with the (X) inside dissapeared. I stayed up for hours listening to my oldies but goodies.

No audio output device is installed

That statement might be true. The audio output device is hardware. If the hardware is present, go to control panel, hardware and sound, sound, audio devices... look for audio hardware, At that point, I like to delete any devices, then go to actions, search for new hardware. If found, windows will usually know what drivers the devices need. On some PCs you need to have a driver disk with special drivers If no hardware is found, you need to go to a PC repair shop or buy a book on PC maintenance and repair...I like the book, others like the repair shops, your choice.

I understand that audio output device is very important to a laptop. But don't worry there's a website where you can download the device for free.

Please just click_here so that you will be directed to the exact site.

Thanks.

I don't have any audio output device installed

You need the sound driver I assume for this laptop. If it doesnt match hardware perfectly then nothing will work.

Go to vendors site with your S/N and Model number to locate the exact sound driver.

Have you checked in control panel / sound speech / sounds & audio devices / click on "sounds" blind and see if any of the sounds can be activated by clicking the big black arrow. If greyed out then the driver is not installed.

No audio outout device is installed

Did your vista install correctly? Is your computer got a 32 bit hard drive? This can happen if your computer worked fine before you changed to vista. or if it did not install properly or you put in a 32 bit for a 64 bit or vise versa. Check these out first. If computer worked before update this is most likely the problem or you may not have enough ram or hard drive memory for vista. Let me know i'll try to help you thru this.
