Hi,

All 100 units of two (2) different brands/design exhibiting same problem and occurring at the same time could not possibly be a unit problem, it would be something common to all such as the electricity.

If we are to assume that it is a problem with the unit and with so many units to be maintained, a full service/repair manual should be available. Pls post back the exact model number(s).

Hope that this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back as requested, how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

I have an Amana PTAC ac 15000 BTU that has stopped, the power cord keeps tripping. I removed the power cord and plugged it in to the socket and the breaker did not trip, any clues. I'm thinking of jus

I think you've gotton your moneys worth with ten trouble free years. The power cords safety device is a bit more sensitive to a high resistive short to ground than your breaker is. I would suggest that there is exactly that: a high resistive short to ground within the cabinet of the PTAC. It has been years since I have been on a PTAC call and am unable to suggest specifics. But if you are competent and capable of using a DVOM, open up the unit and begin a systematic approach of determining the problem.

The FIRST thing I'd do is check the motor and the compressor with a digital megohmeter. Sometimes their problem will only show up with this sensitive device.

My amana ptac is not heating....the code "np" is displayed....how do I correct this...we just installed the unit and know little about operation. Thanks

I don't see this error code in the manual. I do see nP as an error code for Window Switch lockout. I just had this happen to me and they had me reset the control board.

Remove case, flick master switch to OFF for 10 seconds. Press Heat/Cool same time turn switch back on HOLD until off light comes on.

You should be fixed. Just had to do this for my unit. I was playing around with the settings and turned on the window switch option by accident.

House wont cool ..tried to reset breaker in fuse box and breaker outside...this unit is only just over a yr old . the fan thing outdoors is not kicking on..

Does this unit have 2 breakers to it? The model you put down is a PTAC and generally just plugs in to the wall so it would have only 1 breaker. If I recall correctly it's got a 5 year warranty on parts so it may be worth it to check with your local HVAC tech and have them do a diagnostic for you. A good place to start would be Amana who can tell you the authorized service company in your area. They'll get the part for free and should roll the diag fee into the repair cost so you'll only pay for labor (if it even needs a part). Their sales and service number is: 1-800-647-2982. Amana PTAC PTC093A35AA won't blow heat

The reset button is located behing a panel on the front of the unit that is labeled Heat Reset. If that label is gone then look around, it is a small hole, small enough for a paper clip to fit through.
That being said, I have 137 of these units in one of my hotels and have not had a single one needing to be reset. You probably are going to need a new control board kit. These can be purchased from Amana. They are $130. Make sure that you have pulled the heater coil out and inspected it first. Also, there was a recall years ago where Amana was supposed to contact and send out new voltage switches. These are the round black things that the Brown heater wires connect to on the upper and lower side of the heating coil. You should also try to replace those if you find the coil in good condition. I have had those resolve heating issues. Most of the heating issues were a result of a bad relay on the control board though.
Please remember to rate this fix.

Amana PTAC stopped working

The relays in these units blow, hence the popping noise you heard, disconnect power and remove the electronic control board. Flip it over and look under the relays, you will see burn marks under the one that blew. You can order a new board from Amana for around $130.

TRANE PTAC

You need to replace your control board, but if you are can repair it by your self you can change the relay that supply the fan and condenser.
